People actually eat Fruit Cake?

I thought it was used for decorating the home for the holidays?

Yes. People eat it. But it's best to just have a small piece, if you eat too large of a piece the cake is so rich it will kind of make you a bit ill. A small piece of fruitcake goes a long ways! Also, a good cup of Bailey's and coffee, or Bailey's and Chai Spice Tea pairs well. If you never had a fruitcake before (or if you believe you don't like fruitcake), you should try this particular fruitcake. It is so good!

Here she is! Ruck's Rumzano Fruitcake! I started it at 9 AM this morning and got it marinated at 10 PM. Now it's nesting in the cold dark attic until Christmas marinating in Dark Rum and Paisano wine (thus the name Rumzano).

This cake has a pound and a half of butter combined with brown sugar, molasses, honey, maple syrup, orange juice, various dried and candied fruits and peels (ginger, pineapple, cherries, currants, raisins, nectarine, apricots, dates, figs, cranberries...just to name a few), pecans and slivered almonds. I haven't weighed this Behemoth, but I am guessing literally it is at least ten pounds in weight. Now I will marinate it again with Rum and Paisano every couple days or so before Christmas to make sure it doesn't dry out.

I tasted some of the parts that broke off...OMG! This is probably the most delicious thing I have ever made!

I am thinking I am giving Gethsemani a run for their money!

Have you tried drinking the rum straight from the bottle? The results are faster.

Fruit cake is the stuff you use as the inside of a Christmas cake, right?

Love et.

Gipster....like.....wow.....

Agree with Bernie that the shit is inedible; however your marinating intrigues me. Mail me a slice, would ya? Assuming the critters in yo attic don't get into it....lol.

On a similar note, I just made 2 1/2 gallons of Apple Pie Moonshine (technically not moonshine, just its name). We always make Kahlua for xmas but I added this to the repetoir; already half gone....gonna hafta make more.....lol.

1 gal apple juice; 1 gal apple cider; 2.5 C sugar, 1.5 C brown sugar, 12 cinnamon stix, fifth of everclear. Boil the shite to dissolve sugar, cool, add booze, split into quart jars adding the stix, 1 per. Pretty damn good and about $2.50 a quart...

Unfortunately, I haven't drank any of the rum and the bottle is a third of the way done! LOL!

Well, thanks for the recipe. I will give that a shot too (or three or four...), but I have to disagree (as of from I tasted last night) that this cake is going to be inedible. However, I have never "fermented" a cake in the attic before...this could be a make or break deal; but all the fruitcake "experts" tell you to do it.

I basically followed the recipes and techniques by two women on YouTube. I changed some of the ingredients to my liking (such as using Molasses and Honey and adding some orange juice), but I borrowed some ideas from both of these videos.

I actually made two fruitcakes (I only showed you the "pretty" one I did in the bunt pan that weighs ten pounds), the other fuitcake was a block that I had extra batter for; and I am suspecting it might turn out better on the flavor profile because I used the technique of marinating of the second lady...but for most of the ingredients and cake making techniques I followed the advice of the first fruitcake lady.

If the block fruitcake turns out better, I think i will make those next year. I could have made more of those for Christmas presents and I liked the idea of wrapping the fruitcake in a drenched cloth of alcohol! (I didn't use "cherry brandy" as this lady did, as I could not find that particular brandy in our town...so, I settled on a Dark Rum and Paisano mix)

Fruitcake is excellent. I don't know where all the hate comes from. I think it's just a meme. Because it's old and traditional, young hooligans feel they're cool if they hate on it a while.

Some of you like to add booze to your cooking. I'd rather have something medicinal in my brownies, cookies and candies.
