I was just on the process of buying something (I'm not telling) from Amazon and the exchange rate is driving the end price quite high.

Multiple factors and theories about what might be driving the price down:

• Chinese motor is stalling.
• Increasing gas-production competing with oil(most notably shale gas)
• There's speculations the americans have bribed the arabs(and increased their own production) in keeping the price low to f*ck with Russia.
• several major oil-producing countries had/have financial trouble and/or political disagreements, making them sell their oil at lower prices.(Russia, Iran, Venezuela, Libya)

Obviously price is down because supply is up compared to demand! :V

Which I realize answers nothing of the original question. But most people who drive automobiles are glad the price is going down.

The Arabs have slashed the price of their oil in order to fck with their regional rivals, and actually also in part to try and fck with America's shale gas industry.

Hence why I said speculation. And yeah I also read that article about rivalling american shale gas, which tbh doesn't make sense to me. American shale gas is a short-term thing anyway. Even at full production, it is expected production would drop back as soon as 2020. The US can't possibly take over the market on the long run.

I imagine the key part of that point is screwing with their regional rivals. People like IS are hostile towards the Saudis, and seeing as pretty much all their money is from oil wrecking oil prices is a pretty effective way to try and choke them off.

Still, even just for the short term it's unlikely the Arabs would be too thrilled about the prospect of America withdrawing its support for the Arabs (and possibly deserting the area almost entirely) due to no longer needing their oil.

the Saudis, duh.

I like how all of this happened about 4 months ago, and nietzsche is only just now starting to notice that something is going on.
