lol that article made me crack up. if they think the bible is indecent and full of violence, they should start banning every show on tv first.... seems pretty lame to me

Well regardless of whether the book can be considered indecent or not I would support the notion that the Bible should be banned for under 18s, as should any religious book. I do wonder how many people take up religion because of their own free will and what percentage is just because they were brought up with it and not to question it.

I think baptisms or any form of religious indoctrination should also be banned for under 18s. If you're not old enough to cast a meaningless vote for a government that will ignore you anyway you're certainly not old enough to decide what to believe with regards to your existence, worldly conduct and the afterlife.

i think they are being retarded, i mean i am all against organized religion and such so the bible is one big target for me to dislike, but still that is stupid.. its a book, they need to get over it, if it is a book of faith to some people then so be it, but in the end it still is a book..

Very silly

However, this is virtually exactly the same as the brokeback mountain thread (if a little more extreme) but the same arguments are being used. It actually puts it tinto perspective

Very good observation. I hadn't thought about it, but now that you mention it it's true.

Well I think that the reason iit is violent is because it is trying to show that god has the power to do such a thing like what they say.

I agree with you 100% Morph.

In some ways this is quite ironic

But also very silly. I'm against censorship in general, and also in this case. I didn't even know there could be a rating on books, too. Even though this is China, which is far away and therefore has to be very different (don't forget to switch on your irony-meters folks).

On the other hand, how're things with "f*ck" and the like in literature on your side of the ocean? Can anyone buy books there no matter what language is used in them or are they restricted there? I'm not drawing parallels, I'm just interested.

Oh I see. So ten minutes ago it was order of the day to ban mentioning homosexuality. But now it's the Bible getting banned, that sort of thing isn't so cool?

C'mon Jay. Sort it out mate. This is hypocrisy of the highest order.

Jay, please stop with all of these religious threads. Not everyone has the same views as you, so there is no point in telling everyone what you think in such a way. I feel like you are trying to convert us or something!

Have I commented on the article? No. Have I joined in the discussion? No. You, my good man, are paranoid.

Ok then, if you feel threatened by the man's views, THEN DON"T POST ON HIS THREADS! You folks tell us christians to stay off of yours so why bother us on ours?

He has the right to post what he wants(just like you should've been allowed to spam inside of Spamalot). Not to mention the God said to spread the Word. And, also as jay pointed out, he hasn't posted any opinions in this thread thus far, but when he does, he shouldn't be ridiculed for it.

Jay your view is obvious. You've never posted an anti-Christian article and never will. What do you think we are? Stupid?

He'll only be ridiculed if his opinions are ridiculous, and if he can't substantiate them with logical argument. You do the math.

But jay's arguements are generally very good arguements. You seem to be afraid of how he will tear you to pieces.

Harry Potter said; "Quick Ron, Voldemort will be in the Chamber of Secrets already!"

Come on dude; how many times must you have it pointed out that simply quoting bible passages doesn't actually advance your argument? Sure, you believe that some guy said those words once. Big Whoop.
Other people hold equally fervent convictions in faith systems that contradict your message. Which one of you is right? You could shout passages from old books at each other all day, and neither of you would triumph.

If you think that systems of belief, religious or otherwise, ought to be pushed in schools, or if people ought to be forced to go through with ceremonies they have no say in, religious or otherwise, then you need to logically back that up with an argument. Simply telling us that we ought to believe in the same faith system as you isn't good enough. It just produces a stalemate; because we don't.

Either you need to explain why we should be Christians too; or you need to find some way to persuade us that doesn't involve chanting scripture. How haven't you figured that out by now?

I'm yet to hear an argument from Jay that doesn't boil down to accusations of Christian-bashing. I have lost a lot of respect for him, to be honest...

I've heard reasonable and well written arguments from other Christians, Luns and Colossus for example (not that I neccessarily agree with them).

As for Jay, the words 'record' and 'change the' come to mind... :D

Well he spectacularily failed to do so in the 'Brokeback' thread, as I recall; and indeed as everybody else will testify.

Jay's arguments seem to revolve around repeating these things:
"I'm a Christian, so you should all just accept my opinions on how things should be done"
"When you're dead then you'll see how wrong you are"
"Euuuhhh, this is just christian bashing"
"John-Paul-Gaultier 3.12, 'thou shalt not pad thy bra'. There, it's in an old book, you have to agree with it"

I appreciate you share his point of view, and his faith and all that. But you're going to be hard pressed to find an example of Jay defending his viewpoints with any sort of logic or wit in these 'current affairs' threads.
So no; I'm not (and nobody else is) remotely worried about the possibility of being 'ripped' into 'pieces'. Quite the opposite in fact...

well, mayeb don;t prevent them but don;t brainwash them either. Isn;t the best thing to allow your kids to grow up and decide for themselves? if god exists then there's no problem, and you've been a great parent. No worries.

And jay - what DID you think of the article? The bible DOES mention rape, slaughter, incest, mutilation, vengefulness, filicide, slavery....

fox news article wrote:"If there is rape mentioned in the Bible, it doesn't mean it encourages those activities," Reuters quoted Reverend Wu Chi-wai, Protestant minister, as saying. "It's just common sense ... I don't think that criticism will have strong support from the public."

And how DOES that tally with your brokeback arguments?
