yeah but plot and acting is kinda needed if you want the special effects to actually look cool. The special effects were the only okay part of the movie

If you've read the book, the movie was atrocious. The ones that made it either didn't read it or they just took the book and went at it with a meat cleaver, whatever was left they through in with an assortment of other crap.
If you haven't seen it, it's still horrible. Do not see it. Ever.

It was indeed an atrocious film and I feel dirty having watched it. I'm not so pissed off about the money I wasted to go see it but rather the hour and half or so I can never get back

Real let down on the books, which are out of this world. If I was Christopher Paolini I would murder the film directors, producers, the cast, everyone involved

It was the worst fantasy film since Dungeons and Dragons.
But the book is also shit, so as far as I'm concerned it's a faithful adaptation. Huzzah!

I haven't read the book, but I could tell that so many important parts were taken from the book when the movie was made. Still more interesting than the new King Kong, though.

He's a decent writer (definitely for his age and experience), but he borrowed more or less everything from other books. All the time I kept thinking "I've read this before somewhere". But still... agnostic elves that can stimulate others sex-drive by singing, that's definitely something new.
