Manly TV for manly men

Sir Patrick Moore wrote:I used to watch Doctor Who and Star Trek, but they went PC - making women commanders, that kind of thing. I stopped watching.

British TV standards are declining because the BBC is run by women says Sir Patrick Moore

Now I wouldn't have thought this was the case - I mean everyone can choose what they watch now and we can RECORD TV to watch whenever we like. But Sir Patrick is a living legend so I'm inclined to believe he speaks the truth.

Sign this petition - we want Manly TV for manly men! None of this reality TV & soap opera bleading heart rubbish! Clear our airwaves of the foul stench of gender equality!

I think the idea isn't all bad. But then again, there's a risk it'll end in pseudoscientific sensationalism by day and softcore porn by night.

Is it possible to put in a paragraph where the management can be shot if a majority of initial viewers don't like the programs?

Only two words can describe my feeling towards this article.

Hells Yes.

Hang on... Your post has a negative slant... but I cannot see any downside...

Can you elaborate?

There's this weird channel here called DMax (sp.), I've come across it a few times while channel-hopping. There are three "documentaries" you might see at any time, in one some british guy is doing heavy menial work, I have no idea why anyone would want to see that.

In another clairvoyant people are helping the police solve murders, I really don't know what to make of that.
"It might be red, or green, or any other colour, but it's definitely a scarf, or at least some piece of clothing"
"omgzorz that fits with the CLUES we found, it must be the ex-boyfriend who killed her" uhm, yeah... you get the picture.

Most dumb for last, would you waste your time building models of some animals and try to find out which would be able to do more damage to the other? Put in flashy lights and the generic dramatic music and you've got the "show".

They don't even produce anything of their own, they just buy stuff that's there and and brand themselves as a "real men's channel" in the hope people will be stupid enough to watch it for more than 5 consecutive minutes. Personally I think that their plan is that anyone who watches the stuff for more than 5 minutes will by then be stupid enough to continue watching.

The only decent thing I ever came across there was about demolition of houses and other big things. Factual, no unnecessary drama, good explanations.
"Here's the object, this is the way it's built, this is how we'll do it and why", and then you see a 15 storey-building or something like that fall flat.

In the US we already have SpikeTV, because everyone knows that real men just want to watch ultimate fighting, Star Trek, and car chase videos.

I sense that the original poster in this thread is taking the piss out of one of our national institutions. I can see Venus out of my bedroom window right now. If it wasn't for Patrick Moore explaining to us all the astronomical delights to be seen, I'd probably be worshipping it as a god, or something.

Nah, on second thoughts, you're right, the old bugger doesn't half talk some shite.

That's enough out of you, Luns! Not all of us have the great taste to own the DVD sets of DAWSON'S CREEK like yourself. Now if you'll excuse me, the GOLDEN GIRLS is about to come on.

See, it's sentences like this that make me totally fascinated with the linguistic patterns of those that dwell on the British Isles.

Getting that uncomfortable "what happens to guys when they get old, do they lose their masculinity???" feeling here...
