Watching the 7 most possible ways the Earth might end, and i thought this might make a good topic...
What do you think will end our world?
and if you cant think of a reason then just say what you would do for those last few moments or do both

Right now i think Mankinds stupid enough to create a Virus and wipe Humanity off the face of the Earth...And in those last few moments i would either party or do some of the stupidest crap i never thought i would do depending on how quickly the virus would work :D

It'll have something to do with human stupidity. Not global warming though. Not enough of a climate shift to really cause the extinction of every single person. Probably the virus theory or the nuclear holocaust theory.

I think the Global Warming theory is retarded

don't get started on the global warming...believe me, there are enough threads about it already...i think human stupidity will kill us all...viruses, nuclear war, something that spreads fast, doesn't stop, and has long term effects...

the whole theory? it would have happened without us but we just sped it up. Its exact effects are up for debate, but I'm all up for cleaner energy. As for the end of days I can promise you we won't see it coming. People have a weird way of thinking that their generation will be the terminal one, I guess they just want to be special. It'll be something completly unexpected, especialy for the time it happens

Wow, interesting topic.

I'm liable to go with a Nuclear Holocaust-type theory.
I believe there will be another war that will end up drawing in allies on both sides till it turns global.
Then a few sweaty fingers hovering over red buttons are going to get too heavy to hold up.

BOOM!

I dare not make a prediction as to when this would likely happen. Hopefully long after the flesh has rotted from my bones in the earth near my forebears.

That's just a little bit selfish don't you think?

i think the US will get to big for its britches, korea will decide to "put us in our place" which means hitting some big city on the western coast (i hope not seattle, i'll get hit by the fallout most likely)...we'll respond, the United Nations will get pissy...and boom, WWIII happens...and we all die...

I'm inclined to believe there would be some survivors, just as there would be with disease, we might fall back in development but that wouldn't finish us

would you really want to survive that? with so many people dead, there wouldn't be enough to take care of all the bodies...everyone would be rotting, dead...everywhere...esp with a nuclear war, because we'd be taken by surprise, and you couldn't come out for a while because of the fall out...it would be horrible...*shudders*

I doubt the Earth will ever end...
But I believe that the humanity will pass through a really rough time soon. Most of the resources will deplet and major wars will be fought.

would I want to licve through it? no would some people, yes. Look at the Black Plague in the middle ages, wiped out over a third of the population. Now if we take the effects of that and add in today's massicly connected world a very small fraction would survive, but it'd be there

physically it has to end eventualy, stars eventualy burn out. by our rekoning that's millions upon millions of years away, but still would be the end

I personally think the Sun will expand more and more, sucking planets in as it goes, eventually reaching the Earth untill our whole solar sytem is just the Sun. Then the sun will explode in a Super Nova, getting rid of whats left of our Solar System.

But before the Sun gets very big, we will already be gone along with everything on our planet. The Earth will look like it did hundreds of millions of years ago.

But possibly, the others out there in space will find us and help us get out of our Solar System before its too late. Thus saving Human's, but not our Earth.

You might be right there.

But I could also have faith in my childrens' generation to the point that, hopefully, we can all raise them with enough morals and understanding that they may live in a manner different from how we live today, to something more tolerant of the differences in themselves and others.

The amount of times history seems to have repeated itself does not instill me with a lot of confidence, though.

But I guess there is always hope, huh? [-o<

But we've always gotten up from the fall, I take inspiration from that

It is nigh impossible to wipe a species out with a virus. You can kill a lot of them off and make them vulnerable to other things wiping them out, but it is very, very unlikely to wipe a species out.

This is because as the numbers get fewer and fewer then there will be less carriers and more distance between them. Eventually there will only be a few smal groups (for humans this will mean a few million of the richest and most powerful) but the disease will have a hard time travelling between these villages because there will be no-one left to carry it.

I dont think there is anything that humanity can do at this stage to physicaly destroy the earth. We could probably nuke the crap out o it and make it uninhabitable to most complex forms of life for a few thousand years, but the next wave of life (hopefully more intelligent than us) will have no knowledge of us besides an odd layer of radioactive ash and some unexpected isotopes.

The Sun will expand to about the orbit of Venus or Earth, then it will shrink again, down to the sixe of a small moon.

Luckily, humanity has about 5 Billion years before this happens, so there is noting to worry about any time soon.

That is all.

P.S. If it takes you 5 billion years to travel 4 light years, then you havent been moveing much faster than walking pace.

About 1 trillion years away actually.
That is referred to as 'The Heat Death' No stars, no heat, you see?

Life could probably survive longer by feeding off gravity or the radiation from Black Holes for a few more trillion years, but that would be the end of anything interesting.

Wait a sec... are we talking about the demise of mankind? Of all living things on Earth? Or of the Earth itself? :-s

All 3.

Lack of heat = lack of energy = lack of movement = lack of biological processes = lack of life.

Sorry, I should have been more specific - I meant, was the thread about the end of one of those 3 things, and which one?

Humanity, I would assume (because were the only important ones!)
