Sensible question. It can be very embarrassing to ask the girl at the counter to pass one down to you.

It depends on how you see impairment if impairment means you can't get into half the buildings in manchester then yes
but if you mean in scientific terms then yes
And if you think This makes me any lesser disabled than you think again
And if it makes any difference to you I can't walk beyond a step so I'm practically type 2

I was referring to neurological impairment. I asked because you have assistive wheels, which I've only ever seen on tetra's chairs.

As far as access is concerned, the public buildings in Cardiff seem to be quite good. There are some places which can be a nightmare, but they just don't get my custom. The only places where I make a real effort are some of the bars & nightclubs, but I've instructed a lot of the bouncers how to carry me so it's not too bad.

D'you play any sports? I've played a bit of wheelchair rugby, but not for a few years now.

I have another question, Max...

You can't walk but you obviously have good upper body strength, so do you take baths by yourself at this point or do you have to have people help you in and out of the bathtub or anything? (Obviously, I realize you can wash yourself, just curious about the getting in and out part)

Also, as I have never been to the UK, I must ask, do they have handicapped spots in front of buildings? Or what about if you had to ride the city bus or something? Or the subway?

I am impressed, you seem very comfortable in your own skin. Even more impressive is that your opening yourself up for questions.

I am curious...do you ever get ignorant people speaking loudly (or slowly) to you because you are in a chair? Or the complete idiot who asks the able bodied person next to you what YOU would like? (ie: Does he want fries with that?) I saw that happen once and just shook my head in amazement.

I've had that a few times. My friend's reply, "dunno, why don't you ask him"

Public Transport is the worst demon I have to use special transport because the normal bus to school has no disabled access

I can have a shower by myself

And yes you'll be suprised how often they speak to me like a child i.e. a v young child

Backglass If I wasn't comfortable in my own skin I'ld probably have got changed by now ;)

I can't speak for Max here, but most cripples (myself included) have 'roll in' showers, with either a bench to sit on or a special shower chair.

And we do have handicapped parking bays in most places.

Here in Cardiff we have disabled access buses (the kind where they lower down to kerb level to let you on) but I don't tend to use them, mostly because the town is quite flat and I get most of my aerobic & c/v exercise by pushing myself from A to B. I tend to get taxis if the weather's bad or if I've got to get somewhere by a certain time. I find the trains are quite good for access, I use them quite a lot, although I refuse to book my tickets in advance as a matter of principle. I just turn up when I want to travel, as any AB(able body) would.

Our buses do the same but the buses are always parked too far away from the road

Why doesn't that surprise me?

Still, it can't be as bad as the London Underground.
