People you're related to who did notable things

Postby btownmeggy on Fri Feb 23, 2007 11:32 am

Inspired by the Star Trek thread, tell us about people you're related to who did notable things, such as be Gene Roddenberry or invent polystyrene.

I've got nothing, really. My sister once dated an NBA player. I met him when I was about 4, and I asked him if he was a giant. I imagined that he lived at the top of a beanstalk.

My sister is one of those family tree fanatics, but I knew about Toni and Lewis Varick from general family stories, and I also knew that we have some big past. One of my ancestors founded the Bank of New York, but I don't remember his name. The other two that I mentioned are something that I have written down because they are the most interesting.

That's a nasty stutter there, son.

Don't think anyone in my family has been terribly notable, except for LAdy Jane Grey, who was queen of England for nine days in the 1500s before she was beheaded.

I believe I am related to Louis Campau, one of the first French explorers to explore Michigan. He established several trading posts around the lower penninsula, one of which grew into a city and I am typing from right now.

I'm calling you out on that one Jesse... proof?

Also, I think I must know at least a hundred people who are related to Lady Jane Grey.

As for me, nothing special. Am adopted, so I could have some shining mystical past (possibly the next in line to the throne... who knows). But probably not. As for my parents, grandparents etc. etc. they all seem to have been teachers. The family tree we have researched goes back to the sixteenth century, I think, and they really are ALL teachers.

how the f*ck would you know that? i dont know past my great great grandparents

I have found one of my 12 times great grandfathers, died in 1499, and could have went back further but got bored. Go to ancestry.com and start a tree. You'll be surprised what you find. I figured out thet my wifes cousins wife is my 8th cousin, and that my sister married her 9th cousin 1 time removed. My sisters 10 times great grandfather is her husbands 9 times great grandfather. Everyone is related if you go back far enough.
