What religion? (no flaming!)

Hey all
I see a lot of religion threads saying a certain religion is great or a certain religion is terrible.

Im sure this has been done but i thought i would start a thread for people to state what religion they are and why.

This is NOT to argue whose is best (because there are so few who believe in mine i would lose) its just to enlighten others as to the varying different beliefs out there in the CC world.

So ... i will start

I am actually Gaian.
I dont belong to any large organisation and i certainly dont pray.
I believe the earth is alive though not in the same way we are.
I believe when we die we dont go to a heaven or hell but our souls or "energies" merge intpo the earth and all the other souls and share experiences.
Therefore the basic principle and meaning to life is to gain as many experiences be they good or bad or whatever so you can share them with all others when the day comes.

I know its out there and very uncommon. This doesnt automatically make me a hippie.

So lets hear yours.

As stated before, I am an objectivist-atheist of the Rothbardian-Objectivist school.

I believe that reason and logic are our moral compass, and that all decisions, ideas, and concepts can be objectively weighed to measure the amount of moral validity they hold.

I'm a Anglican Christian, though I place my faith in the works of the church itself more than anything else.

I go to a Unitarian Universalist Church every Sunday. Congregation consists of everything from Christians, Muslims, Atheists, and even one guy worships the greek gods. Its an interesting experience to be in such a diverse group.

I just feel at my age (17) I'd be doing myself a disservice to follow one religion exclusively.

wow there is quite a variance here.

Colealone, do you get taight about the different religions or how does that work?

i am also a unitarian universalist and myself am an atheist. in the UU church children learn in their RE classes about all the different religions as people from many different ones come to the church. they also visit the other places of worship in the area to see first hand what others believe. our children are brought up with no prejudices against other beliefs or ways of life and are forced to believe nothing.

I am a Satanic Buddhist. This is not devil worshipping. I speak of the Church of Luciferian that Anton Szandor LaVey began. You would be surprised how close his version of Satanism and Buddhism really are.

errr, I highly doubt that whatever is associated with the concept of satan has anything to do with the middle road that the buddha preached.

Did you guys know that the buddha was an indian prince? His preachings never took deep root in india however; they were taken to china by a cultural representative and spread far in the east.

Some info there for you guys =)

Thats also how Shaolin Kung-Fu was started in China.

When they saw the indian Yogi's the Shaolin adopted the amazing movements from Yoga and developed it for defence.

(Thats the short story)

I'm Sikh, because I was brought up as one as both my parents are.

I made my choice recently that I will continue to be a devoted Sikh rather then a "casual" Sikh, because I strongly believe in our beliefs.

As Dariune said, no flaming... And I guarantee I know more about the similarities of those two religions than you. So, please, keep your opinions to yourself.

There are bound to be points where religions cross.

Points where what is gospel in one religion is horribly wrong in another.

Im afraid i also dont know much about Anarkists beliefs but that doesnt mean its any less valid.

I know more about Bhuddism and if anything thats the nearest better known belief to mine but it doesnt make it any more valid.

Questions are cool but we all know there are gonna be cross over points in our belifs and there are plenty of threads that allow you to voice how wrong the other guy is.

Lets just keep this to questions and answers.

Here's the issue you two have going on here.

You both have your own ideas developed by your personal exposure to Buddism.

This is the problem with all religion and it plagues everyone. Religion is concepts and ideas. It's the part of us somewhere between emotion and logic but it's trying to straddle the two and be niether.

Niether one is wrong is it? Yet that's what is being suggested.

You guarantee you know more about a loose concept that is in all of our heads in a slightly different form than he does? Ok then carry on.

The same part of religion that developes into debates is the very thing that gives it it's highest value. Personal connection with it that makes it your own thought.

Who is the current leader of the neo-chan temple in Grand Forks and more importantly why did they excomunicate Mr. Piercy?

Well that's kind of the point I'm making here D. I was part of that temple and had left for some time before my friend was forced out.

I was hoping you could use your vast knowlege of the religion to help me out. Afterall there was some form of "gaurantee" that you know more about it than me, or was that only extended to Vic?

I'll ask an easier question. Why is the chinese depiction of Buddah the polar opposite of the traditional one?

Re-read the last line Vic. He's telling you about a specific version or sect and that you would be suprised at the similarities between it and a specific buddism.

He seems to have nailed that prediction. That's not to say your statement is not valid. Most sects of Buddism today are not based on much that's actually from the collective writings of Buddah.

i didnt say i have a vast knoledge of that religion.
I said i knew more of it than of Anarkists belief.

I am Gaian and therefore i have a vast knoledge of what i belief.

As to the chinese religion, i dont know about that either. I know about Shao lin Kung fu which was my earlier point.

Apart from this post, i havent addressed you, so i would apreciate you stopping your efforts on making me fall over.

I think you misunderstood my earlier post having just gone back over the thread as a whole.
Now i asked that there be no flaming and you trying to be smart is no more constructive, so lets go back to the questions and asnswers game ok and stop the smartass attitude.

I'm not, I just have a gift of seeming like I am.

I'm doing the same thing I'm trying to point out by the way. Attatching one person's written idea to another.

It was Anarkist that was making the gaurantee.

Hopfully he can shed some light on why they went from Mr.Piercy being the next leader of the sect to banishment.
