Do you read Ben Goldacre, Paddy? I've been reading him since he started his "Bad Science" column in the Guardian. His stuff is great - it was only when he started that I began to realise just how pitifully science is reported in this country (and elsewhere.) I don't know why there hasn't been a journalist like him in this country before now. I know America has had their "Skeptics" for years, but nothing here, really.

The Guardian? Ooh...

Oh, and...er, are you suggesting I should somehow be embarrassed about being a Guardian reader? Hmm?

Sorry, but for some reason I've never actually read the Guardian, I've always been to put off it, but I dont know why. I used to read The Times or the Mirror/Sun (these 2 mainly for sport as they've got pretty good covereage of the sports I like). Nowadays, especially after Times left broadsheet I read the Times pretty much solely.

What political party do Guardian allign to? Times got New Labour, you've got the Torygraph, Independant is Green, but I've never really known much about the Guardian.

The Guardian is a liberal newspaper, tending to support Labour and the Liberal Democrats. There's a fair few socialist columnists in there too, but not as many as there used to be...sigh.

BTW, The Times isn't really a "Labour" paper - they will only support Labour until Rupert Murdoch tells them to switch back to the Tories again - same as with The Sun.

Read the article in the Guardian, was fascinating and did confirm my intense hatred for the stupid spindly woman. Havn't looked at the site yet, though, so I might have a browse later.

For one, people should realise that she looks like a Skeleton and probably shouldn't be telling THEM what to eat.

The missus and her flatmates watch it for the cringe factor, but I really can't stand the fake play-fighting and drama she throws in for televisual effect. Glad she's finally been 'outed'

Anyone like the bit about the illegal 'Horny goat herbal love pills' or whatever which she tried to sell??? Hilarious!

True, thats the only thing I dont like about the Times. I hate Murdoch. Atm they support Labour which is what I care about, although they were Tory until New Labour was created. Atm they dont really like Cameron too much, but the like Brown so it'll be interesting who they choose for the next election.

Did you read the arrticle?

She doesn't have a verifiable PhD.

it said dr. gillian mckeith PhD

so therefore she must have a verifiable PhD

The article wrote:If you contact the Australasian College of Health Sciences (Portland, US) where McKeith has a “pending diploma in herbal medicine”, they say they can’t tell you anything about their students. When you contact Clayton College of Natural Health to ask where you can read her PhD, they say you can’t. What kind of organisations are these? If I said I had a PhD from Cambridge, US or UK (I have neither), it would only take you a day to find it.

I'm going to stick the King of England after my name. Therefore I must be the verifiable King of England!

Shes got a degree by mail-order university basically. The guardian journalist signed up his dead cat for the same degree and has it hanging on his bathroom wall. Its not certified by any recognised medical body.

Shes a fraud, and much of her 'scientific' information is complete bullshit.

doctor isn't a medical term she could call herself doctor if she had a PhD in IT

That's not the point - she doesn't even have that.

Yeh if she had a certified PhD in IT, not one from a mail-order degree that just involves you paying a bit of cash for a piece of paper unrecognised by any genuinely certified medical organisation.

Also, her so called 'academic' work has never been published in any kind of peer-review journal, her sources are basically health shop magazines (rather than certified medical studies and research reports).

Dr Gillian McKeith’s Fast Formula Horny Goat Weed Complex. This is the most advanced formula of natural herbal plants for men, using McKeith Rapid Micron Technopogy. Researched at the McKeith Clinic in London, Dr Gillian McKeith has gained exceptional results with patients [The mind boggles]. In a controlled study over a 3 month period, men reported significant results in maintaining erections, orgasmic pleasure, ejaculation and overall sexual satisfaction.

This drug she put out for sale was for one completely illegal and had not passed any kind of drug testing, two has a ridiculous name! and three she completely made up something called 'rapid micron technology'.

Come on, the woman's a joke!
