Democracy and all your values and rights come from teh British system. Who cares if Republicans and Democrats are American? They both suck. American politicians in general are amateurs compared to European politicians. If George Bush was European he wouldnt be accpeted to be a MP or MEP by any of the mainstream parties, let alone lead one.

Christmas is not American. America took away the meaning of Christmas and made it another excuse to spend money and waste crap. How many kids nowadays know the real meaning of Christmas compared to the ones who believe in a fantasy guy who gets exiting in making children happy( Not Jacko)?

Immigration was existant well before America. The UK was immigrated by mainly Germanic tribes, well before Europe discovered the Americas. USA is an immigration hotspot, just like every other developed Western country. eg, the UK received 600,000 immigrants from 1 country in the past 2 years.

Sportsmanship? How can you have sportmanship? You dont even play the same sports as the rest of the world. Basketball, Baseball, American Football, all only really popular in USA, not in any other countries.

Also, USA is not that great as publishing literature. English writers from over 100 years ago are still among the most famous and sought after nowadays, and the modern book market has been dominated by Harry Potter, which once again will rape all other books when it is released later this year.

I never thought Harry Potter was well written...& u cant say that the internet was invented by a british guy because there were many ppl that made breakthrough discoveries, so not 1 person invented it. Christmas is German & i do think that we have some of the best authors

Tim Berners-Lee created the World Wide Web. He had the help of a Belguim guy, but he is credited with creating it. Loads of people made significant discovories and inventions leading up to flying machines, but the Wright Brothers still get almost all the credit.

To that list of great American authors, how about Stephen King, John Grisham and Dan Brown. Or we can go a little far back, Hemingway, Mark Twain, Longfellow, Washington Irving....

But since this thread has got completly off topic, like most do, I would like to respond to Jamie's poll. Its nausiating to think that the country that defeated Hitler, outlasted Stalin, has come so far to equalize the playing field for all races within its borders, has people like Jamie saying we should deport somebody for posting something he doesn't agree with. I posted against D.IsleReal Brown and autoload on the Americans flame thread. I got angry too. I couldn't make them see us in a more positive light. Do we deport them? NO! In case you didn't realize, we have free speech in this country. You can hate despise them for their opinion, but if they come here in a legel manner and don't preach violence, they have the same rights as Jamie to stay here.

To me, what happens in the Flames Forum stays in the Flames Forum...

America has loads of brilliant authors, those are NOT some of them.

I have to say that popularity is no indication of quality, though Harry Potter is in fact excellent, fun to read and has a very cohesive and believable alternate world.. reminds me a lot of the best books Roald Dahl wrote.

I think the worlds best childrens author is probably Philip Pullman, and he is English.

Hemingway is world class, Twain is OK and Irving is frankly turgid. Arthur Miller is brilliant, you should have listed him I think.

Loads of good stuff from the US, but England has more. Huzzah!

Don't you mean they came from philosophers and Revolutionaries opposing the British system. Maybe the history books are different across the Atlantic, but here they seem to say that we rebelled from this democratic British system so we could have a democracy.
