My roomate and I have built a homemade smoker...it's working pretty damn well...2 terrikota pots, one flipped upside down on top of the other. Anybody else like to smoke meat? I love it....

I'll post some picks and instructions etc once we get it all finalized etc.

My colleague used to use old refridgerators, but now they have too much plastic inside. Most people around here build them from brick or rock.

One thing, those metal jobbers you see all over for around $30-40 are pretty worthless! much better to just build one.

I want a two chamber steel one when we return to my wife's house. I don't know if it will happen. I should build one but might buy it.

Some kind person/people removed the fire pit from her yard a few days ago, probaly christian/s. "Hey you know that house on the corner no one lives in. Let's take the fire pit." "Yeah they probably won't even notice."

Thanks scum bags, we noticed.

Usless background on us you don't need to know is there was a fire in the basement. Plenty of toxic smoke we are in a rental until they "restoration" company finishes replacing things there. The reason no one has lived there since September.

OH.. one warning. There are plans out there to use trash cans, etc. Some work, but BE CAREFUL. stay away from anything galvanized and any inside-turned painted surfaces. You want to smoke your meat, not poison it.

(bdub... check that terra cota for lead. You can get a cheap tester at your hardware store.)

No need to worry about the lead content in bedub's smoker. That guy is off his rocker already. A bit more lead in his system won't make a blind bit of difference

You won't find any lead in terra cotta... lead is a cheap flux used in some
extremely low fire glazes and isn't used in clay bodies...unless these pots
have colorful embellishments on them.

There's a brand called "Old Smokey" that is probably similar in design to
the stacked flower pots, is inexpensive and works great if you don't feel
like making one. I used to smoke turkeys in one at Thanksgiving and it
just can't be beat.

Although there are designs that park chicken in the top and ribs below
that produce amazing results.

You can see we put a door on it to gain access to the wood chip pan, and also lined it with oven gasket sealer....basically rope that can take very high temperatures....

How can I tell which one is the best product among those mentioned on the list here?

Mod Edit (DK): You can bet that wherever your spam link went, I didn't bother visiting.

As far as a stick smoker, I would suggest the Lang units are possibly the best Jeff.

https://www.langbbqsmokers.com/resource ... -flow.html

But as long as it's heavy gauge steel you can't go wrong with most of the brands out there.

Yoder, Lone Star Grills from Texas, etc. are all excellent.

What do you like DK?

This looks ok if you want to buy a less expensive unit but the gauge is thin. Then again if you are not sure what you need, you could buy this one, get going and sell it so you can upgrade later.
