First of all, in case you missed it a little ways back, Texas became it's own nation BEFORE becoming part of the US. Also, it wasn't limited to the "immigrants" from the US there, it was pretty much everyone there. They were tired of taking orders from a dictator-run "democracy" 1000 miles away, and so fought for their Independence from them. They remained a separate Republic for a few years, then asked if they could join the US as a slave state.

Honestly though, hard to tell if you are being serious or sarcastic half the time.
