I say its too early to tell who will win among microsoft and nintendo.
I think if it weren't for this red ring of death microsoft would be winning so nintendo dodged a bullet there, they just have to take advantage by not making any mistakes on their own, such as ignoring 3rd parties. Online, 360 is obviously dominating with the tried and true Live formula as well as new additions like the indie game maker-kabob. The Wii is slowly entering this field, with things like its own game maker, but more importantly, with one of the biggest multiplayer series of all time, of course I'm talking about smash bros, finally making its way to cyberspace.

that is all for now.

To summarize the quote, Sony is doomed in the gaming business if they fail to do a miracle.
Basically, it all turns out to be a Wii vs Xbox 360 work.
My prediction of the future: (Mind you, this is not always true) Nintendo will keep its whole building in the gaming business up while the microsoft foundation may be in jeopardy.
My reason for microsoft's jeopardized foundation: Halo 3 is perhaps the biggest gamble they pulled yet IMO, and if it fails miserably, that can basically put microsoft off the map about 80% of the way... (Meaning that microsoft would fall into sony's predicament with having to pull a miracle or be wiped out of the gaming industry)

Wrong. Microsoft will try again if the 360 fails.

True they will try again, but suppose another big goof up occurs and they try again? This cycle will likely repeat itself if microsoft goofs up a lot.
Just an what if bit.

and what makes you so sure that nintendo won't cock up?

That is more questionable in the future... Good point.
If nintendo fails, then what is the point of hope?

exactly, i'm sure there is a hugely anticpated wii game on the cards, and whats saying that won't live up to expectations

If nintendo fails to live up to today's expectations, then my soul basically is going to the devil.

Super smash bros Brawl is highly anticipated right now.

And they probably have more ideas in mind.

Just like halo 3.
Odds of SSBB being successfull ??? / ???
Odds of Halo 3 being successfull ???/ ???
I had to do that joke there.
Back on topic, If both gambles fail, then sony may have a chance to catch up with the other 2.
If nintendo and microsoft succeed with their gambles, then sony is basically a sunk boat.
If nintendo works out while microsoft crunches there, let us just say that the war between the consoles shifts from wii and xbox 360 to xbox 360 vs ps3.
If nintendo crunches, and microsoft wins, then same situation as above, except swap xbox360 with wii.
Those are 4 outcomes I created.

Not just one, three.

1) MSG4 (almost as anticipated as Halo 3)
2) Killzone 2 (reputed as a "Halo killer")
3) Haze (just beautiful looking)

oh and NES even if both ssbb and h3 fail, it will affect the war greatly but there's still more to it than that.

Halo 3 is going to crash, and no one gives a shit about super smash brothers brawl, it's just going to be another wii boxing.

1) Not enough people play Metal Gear Solid. It's criminal, the series is brilliant.

2) Not necessarily. Killzone 2 comes out summer next year (?) so the hype about Halo 3 will be well over by then.

3) You missed the point completely. I put the "just" in there like when a chef calls his food - "just exquisite".

You know nothing about the game if you say that.

Good catch PCM.
It could very well have little boxing element, but hey! There is a reason the GC controller compatitability is in for this game.

Killzone 2 will be a graphical dreamworld - Killzone 1 had ludicrous graphics, and they put as many polygons into each individual character in Killzone 2 as they did in every level in killzone 1. Of course graphics doesn't make the game.

Anybody heard anything about a gears of war 2?

And does Halo 1 work in the 360?

No but it's halfway there. You need a blend of sweet graphics and churning gameplay to make a game.

Yeah, I guess so. Games are much more absorbing with graphics but the situation has to be convincing enough to really be good. Music counts for a lot also.
