I have taught in public school and now teach at a private Christian school. I have talked to my students (briefly) about the Michigan shooting and have prayed about that and prayed to God to keep us all safe from "bad" things in the world such as COVID and school shootings.

God can help the situation and one big way is that Christianity attempts to respect everyone. That is very important. Removing God from school removed much of the moral authority of Scripture as embodied in the teachings of Jesus and the Ten Commandments.

BUT note that removing prayer and God did not lead immediately and directly to school shootings. Here is where ConfedSS FAILS in his over-simplified analysis. He offers simple explanations and simple solutions to complex problems. Prayer was banned in the early 1960s and Columbine happened in 1999. A LOT happened in-between. One did not cause the other DIRECTLY; things are much more complex. One critical factor is the breakdown of the family. Another is the influence of media and popular culture. However, for me, the critical factor is the lack of respect of self, others and each other that our culture and society has spawned. I would argue that Christian values do not foster such hatred of self nor of others. There are always religious extremists in any group, and they can drive some toward hatred. The overall emphasis of most religions is living peacefully in the world with others.

My God loves everyone and cannot be removed from a public school, just by instituting a requirement, a policy or rule. Particularly one intended to prevent someone from "respecting" an atheist by forcing their child to pray with them.

Much like you can not force him into a residential school by chanting are fahther or Hale Merry between murdering "little savages" that won't convert.

Congrachulashuns, for showing me so much respect, I dread coming to the forum, have not posted about two new hobbies I have become interested in, and have quit posting in my Astronamy thread.

I have enjoyed all the loving fatherly spelling and grammar corrections so much, I have changed from considering inviting someone to meet up with my family in Montana and letting them use my telescopes, to avoiding interaction with them here all together.

Even to the point of going so far as to briefly change the title of that thread, in hope it would slip away and they would not find it to continue bullying or posting copies of copyrighted pictures.

A terrific way to demonstrate respect for rules, is copyright infringement.

I have to agree with KoolBak here. Some posters here are getting much too upset over matters that are really personal and individual and protected by our US Constitution (Free Speech and Freedom of Religion [from state "entanglements"]). I would also argue that such views are generally accepted over most of the West as well as the civilized world.

We should be able to express our views and not be attacked because we hold them. We should also be able to discuss such views rationally and calmly and NOT YELL at each other (in huge or even large font). We should not not subject others to continuous and repeated ad hominem attacks. What others choose I cannot control. I can only control my statements, posts, beliefs, and what how I react to what is often an irrational statement and sometimes JUST stupidity and/or ignorance.
