I saw it earlier today and heres what I think of it:
No, it wasn't a bad movie. On a scale of one to ten i'd give it a 7. Great action sequences, but they were repetitive and not as memorable as the ones from spiderman 1 or 2. The romance was subpar at best, Tobey is not known for his cheesy monologues for good reason. And Topher, who i LOVE from that 70s Show, continues to prove he is not a topnotch actor(oceans 11 being the obvious exception) Still, it was well put together with good twists and some pretty nifty shots. The reason I wouldn't give it a higher score is below the spoiler warning.
**Spoiler Warning**
Near the end of the movie, Harry and Spider man team up as a douo to fight off the sandman and venom, and from then on the movie is horrible. Not only do this just-formed tag team have all the typical and crappy lines: "I got your back!" "hey can you help me out over here?" "No, i'm pretty busy over here!!" that annoy the hell out of me, but also everything gets resolved too nicely. Venom, whose conflict should have been drawn out for longer, came and went in a heart beat, and by the end, Spidey and Sandman seemed like the best of friends. Very obnoxious.
And SpiderMan 3 went the way of LOTR: Return of the King in the sense that it had 2 or 3 unnecessery points where the movie could have, should have, ended. But it didn't.
All in all, I would see it, and holleywood will probably make a ton of money off of it. But it won't go down as one of those "truely great" movies, like Spiderman 1 could be considered.
And one last thing, although Tobey Macquire has apparently signed on for more movies, I've seen an interview with Kirsten Dunst(Mary Jane Watson) saying she's calling it quits after #3. I believe this will have a negative impact on the saga - if it continues.
