A radical feminist is a person who feels that there must be a complete uprooting and reorganization of our society in order to achieve equality.

A man-hater is someone who hosts resentments against all males for whatever reasons, be it personal experience or a general attitude that men are the cause of all problems.

There is line seperating misandry and radical feminism.

That being said I feel that radical feminism, although well intentioned, is ridiculous. It may be the only true way to accomplish equality, but it is entirely illogical in the general realm of impossibility. While it may represent some level of conformity to the same system they are "fighting," a move to adopt a more moderately feminist view would be far more effective as a means to achieve equality. By this I mean working towards equality by attempting to change the systems already in place.

...yeah

Oh look! A reasonable person who has the foggiest idea of what feminism is! =D>

EDIT: No offense, get tonkaed... you'd been reasonable in the thread, but not really talking about feminism.

You made a thread attacking "radical feminists", also called by you as "feminazis", a name that alludes to a nationalist mass movement that was responsible for what is probably considered the most terrifyingly horrible human rights abuse of all history. This group of "radical feminists" is indescript, except in that they possibly don't shave their armpits and they want men to be slaves. Since such a constituency is probably non-existent, one can only assume that you're just attacking anyone who has an inkling of an opinion that maybe women haven't gotten the best end of the deal over the course of human history. By attacking this idea, your suggesting that women deserve things like beatings by the people that they love most, "honor killings", lack of choice about reproduction, education, and professions. That's insulting. To all women.

If there exists a woman who might fittingly be described as a feminazi, introduce her to me. Give me her email address. I'm serious. Because I've never met such a person, and believe you me, I've been hanging out in the right kinds of circles to find them. I went to college (university) at what is commonly considered the most radical school in the U.S. It was about 65% female, hard hard left, and most of us gals there didn't shave much of anything. I heard people say, "Women should have a choice!", but the idea of someone saying "Men are inferior objects who should be knocked to the ground, crushed under our heels, and made to suf-suf-suffer!" was so far from the realm of reasonable consciousness that its mere consideration is absurd.

Been awhile since there was a thread like this. And sorry if my posts seem a bit weird for awhile, I just had my wisdom teeth pulled out today and the painkillers tend to screw with my head a bit. Anyways, coming from the Equality State (Wyoming), we were the first state to give women's sufferage, and also had the first female senator's, etc. However, what some women have taken Feminism too is just ridiculous. I can see the whole voting and better pay and such, but when some (maybe not many but some) try to make the male side of the human species in to either barbarians or all are criminals of one sort or another. Also, some refuse to take their husband's (that is if they ever marry) last name. But recently, I have come to notice what has been described as "Womanists." Basically, the old school versions that only wanted better pay and other sufferages. No qualms about taking their husband's last name, or much of anything else that is really associated with the 60s generation/movement. Which I believe kind of got carried away in some aspects.

I agree that's not really bad or anything, but I have to think it's not going to normally be motivated by a feminist thing. I mean, either way she got her last name from a man, either her husband or her father. I would say I've seen cases where a woman has a known last name and wishes to retain that, or when the guy she's marrying has a really bad last name. One of the English teachers at my high school married into Humpfrey, but still chose to go by Clayton, for obvious reasons relating to the immaturity of her students.

Some though won't take it for stupid reasons, such as that it is a man's name, and not hers (though like you said, her name originally came from a man's, so it is stupid in some aspects.), along with other things.

True, that's a little bit silly, but I see no harm in that.

And my sister is pretty determined to keep her last name, since she wants to be a dermatologist and my grandfather was a very well known dermatologist. I see the reasoning in that.

Brooksieb, I suspect that when you're talking about radical feminists you're talking about women who say things like the following:

************************************************************
"All men are rapists and that's all they are" -- Marilyn French

"All sex, even consensual sex between a married couple, is an act of violence perpetrated against a woman." -- Catherine MacKinnon

"I want to see a man beaten to a bloody pulp with a high-heel shoved in his mouth, like an apple in the mouth of a pig."

"Marriage as an institution developed from rape as a practice."

"Heterosexual intercourse is the pure, formalized expression of contempt for women's bodies." - Andrea Dworkin

"The nuclear family must be destroyed. Whatever its ultimate meaning, the break-up of families now is an objectively revolutionary process."
-- Linda Gordon

"I believe that women have a capacity for understanding and compassion which man structurally does not have, does not have it because he cannot have it. He's just incapable of it." -- Barbara Jordan

"The male is a domestic animal which, if treated with firmness...can be trained to do most things." - Jilly Cooper, SCUM (Society For Cutting Up Men)

Extreme anything is irritating. Some people just can't see when they've taken a good idea too far.

I agree. MTG, I don't see how you can use keeping their previous surname purely as a trait of the "Radical Feminist" (I don't know the correct terminology, so I'll stick with that). People have the right to choose their own name and the name-change is an outdated, oppressive concept anyway.
