there's no option for the Galactic Empire.

or the Wookie Society on planet Wookieville.
have you ever seen an idealist with grey hairs on his head?
or successful men who keep in touch with unsuccessful friends?
you only think you did
i could have sworn i saw it too
but as it turns out it was just a clever ad for cigarettes.

Ancient Macedonians and Alexander were greek so it is the same thing.

Greek used to be the universal language, then Latin. You can't know if this is going to last forever.

Lasting forever is not the qualification of current greatest. Outlasting others might be a good start, but still not everything.

Two Yugoslavias? Hmm...why?

And anyway this poll doesn't make sense. Since the USA still exists today and many people on these fora are from the US it's obvious they will vote for their mother country.

The answer to this poll is simple: Roman Empire - the impact that the Roman Empire has had on the world (especially the Western World) can still be felt today in so many ways. Even the USA likes to associate itself with Ancient Rome to this day and age.

The British Empire comes in a close second in my book. Even the saying "the sun never sets on the British Empire" can give you an idea of the grandeur of that Empire...and let's not forget the British Empire saved the world during World War II especially in the initial stages of the war where it was fighting alone for 2 years or more. Ironically the British Empire has also contributed to make the USA what it is today.

I don't disagree with you about it. All I am saying is that just because English is the universal language now doesn't make USA the greatest country that ever existed.

A language that is 70% made of Latin and French and around 20% of old German. The other 10% is a result of words added to all this.

Hopefully, most people are at least reasonably happy with the country in which they live.

However, the real answer is "yet to be determined". Hopefully, we will learn from our past mistakes and create a better world.

Though I am told the Chinese look to a "Golden Age" roughly 5000 years ago....

The nation-state is merely an arbitrary concept in order to divide humanity into 'us' and 'them', it benefited the ruling class because it gave them an excuse to force people into line. They merely had to point to all the other groups and say "Look at those, if you don't follow our commands they will come here and kill and rape us all, but if you follow us we can be the ones to conquer them".

Discuss.

There is certainly some truth to that.
However, there are many practicalities such as building roads, maintaining general order and so forth that require government of one form or another.

Sure, but they could (theoretically, at least) be dealt with perfectly well with a decent ecumenopolis.

Incidentally, The Roman Empire was an empire, not a country. Hence the name .
Same for other "empires".
The Soviet Union was a Union, not a country, hence the name.
Ancient Greece was not a single country.
Colonial Britain was four countries, even if we forget the colonies.

For most of the world, the obsession with "nationhood" is relatively recent. (18th century on).

'America' is two entire continents. Your post is meaningless.

Also, I think the OP meant 'great' as in 'illustrious' and 'renowned', not 'fat'.
Although if he did mean fat, then i have to vote USA too.

Fear the Amero...

It's definitely not just the product of made-up rumours and wild, baseless conjecture. It's a completely real thing that is certainly going to really happen. In real life. For real. Absolutely.
