Ok, I've watched almost everything recommended by reliable sources in this thread now.

More suggestions, please.

Knowing Me, Knowing You
I'm Alan Partridge

Does Man Stroke Woman count? Kinda low-brow, but it's hilarious on occasion.

Black books. Definatly one of my favourates.
Have I got news for you-proberbly best if your brittish
Blackadder
Python
IT crowd
The Boosh
Never mind the buzzcocks
Ripping Yarns-not so laugh out loud funny but pleasent to watch
Armstrong and Miller
Not the 9'o clock news
French and Saunders
Goodness gracious me
Green Wing

I'm sure i can think of more but those are the first that came to mind-I'm a great viewer of brittish comedy, There are a lot fewer comedies from other countries that are quite as good (although flight of the concordes FTW)

british comedy

Postby mandyb on Sun Dec 23, 2007 7:03 am

how about The Goodies, anyone remember them? Also used to watch the Carry on films - often silly, full of innuendo and old music-hall humour, but very British nonetheless....

I haphazardly came across a little show about Buzzcocks the other day.

It's sooo good. I laugh and laugh and laugh.

At first I was kinda uncomfortable and sad when they would be so apparently mean to each other. But I got used to it.

This show is actually the impetus behind my English accents and dialects thread because the only drawback to the Buzzcockery is that I sometimes don't understand their jibberjabber. Or the references.

Oh, and I'm in love with the skinny little host. I want him to ridicule ME. =P~

which one, with frizzy hair, Simon, or the one with glasses(he was best), Mark. Also yeah thats a great show, but watch the ones with Mark Lamaar, they may be older but he is so quick and mean its hilarious.

alos the might boosh, only that show would have a guy ask a monster, "geeze, havent u heard of straightners? finishing gel?"

men behaving badly is cool as well, if a little dated 10 years on

my family is good, if a little cheesy

pheonix nights is really funny

black adder(but not the first)

Young ones is hilarious, one of the funniest things eva on tv

Nobody's mentioned the "CatherineTate show". Am I bovvered though?
Nobody's mentioned "the Kumars at Number 42", innit?
Did anyone mention "Little Britain"? If not, good, forget I mentioned it, its had too much publicity already.
Does anyone else remember "Good Morning Sarge"? It was a police sit-com, and very funny.
Talking of police sit-coms what about "The Thin Blue Line"?
What about "Chelmsford 123"?
and the only other Roman Empire sitcom I'm aware of, "Up Pompei"? Cheezy but sometime very funny.
People have mentioned "Are You Being Served" and "Allo Allo". Shame on you. you'll be dragging Benny Hill into it next.
"The Good Life"! (you call it something else in the US - the one with Tom and Barbara Good who decide to go self-sufficient)
One for the Scots: "Absolutely!"
I've just got some DVDs of two series from the late 60's - "At Last the 1948 Show" and "Do Not Adjust Your Set". Both look rather lame and dated now, but they launched the careers of most of the Monty Python crew, Marty Feldman, and David Jason.

Aye! The Goodies are up there with the very best, but had the misfortune to be shown around the same time as Monty Python's Fying Circus, and so was overshadowed.

Best Moment?

Noone mentioned "A bit of Fry and Laurie"?
"Some motherfuckers are always trying to ice skate uphill."

Duane: You know what they say about love and war.
Tim: Yes, one involves a lot of physical and psychological pain, and the other one's war.

I went to see "the Bank Job" last night, it was brilliant.
This is relevant because it scripted by Clement and Le Frenais, authors of such ancient classics as "Steptoe and Son". It's not a comedy, though funny in places. You sould see it. BTW they also scripted "Flushed Away", one of the best family films of the last few years.
