Was Paul sarcastic?

No, he literally set out to persecute Christians. That was, until his trip to Damascus. :P

Hmm...

Are there any Biblical characters who, rather than spending their life persecuting Christians, were generally pretty accepting of the faith of others, but occasionally got a bit annoyed with more extreme cases and liked to debate on internet forums... And then had a little walk to Damascus but on the way their beliefs didn't really change much?

I think the book of Guiscard was close to making it in to the Bible but I think it lacked 2 votes. Too bad, might have made a good read.

Am I extreme? Hmmm maybe you have a point. I'll try to tone it down a little.

My purpose

Postby luns101 on Fri May 25, 2007 11:47 am

The point of life is to get a good paying job so you can afford a premium membership at conquer club, find some good teammates or opponents, and roll 6's for the entire game.

After winning, go get a beer and call some friends over and talk about football while PINK FLOYD plays on the stereo in the background. If it's not football season then talk about the latest episode of LOST and why you're angry that one of the characters got killed off and what you think will happen next.

...at least that's my purpose!

To a point, I to agree. Have a beer, watch some hockey (sorry soccar and footballers.), go to the theater (both kinds), go to a concert (in my case, a rock concert), try out new foods (and if you like it, try it again next time), live healthly (can't enjoy it all if you're sick all the time), get married, have kids, raise them proper, watch them have grandchildren and be content to know that you did right. But don't let age make you old. As I said on another thread, the days we get are short and are gone fast. Don't waste 'um.

Actually it's not that tough of a Question.

The Point of Life is to perpetuate Life.
i.e. have children. It's as simple as that.

Actually life would be pointless if it's only purpose was to make more life. Why not just have one big floating vagina that shoots out babies every 2 seconds?

No, I think life is preparing you for something much more meaningful and profound than what we do - sitting around emptying our ball sacks, destroying our bodies with alcohol and becoming addicted to online games is hardly the meaning of life.

The question wasn't What's the Meaning of Life?, but What's the Point of Life?!

I'm talking about all LIFE not Human Life.
All life has "Meaning", no matter how "Pointless" it may be.

I second that notion. Life must have a point, and some intrisic meaning. If our collective purpose is solely to continue the bio-chemical chain-reaction of life, then why bother pretending that we have minds? If that is the purpose, then our thoughts, memories and emotions, the things that make us who and what we really are, are nothing more than electro-chemical impulses being produced, traveling through and then being stored in eight pounds of cold, soggy tissue in reaction to stimuli. Honestly, what meaning is there in that? [/i]

Point of life? Why does it really matter?
We are concieve, we get born
We learn
We grow
We cry
We get old
We die

And all the other stuff inbetween, like laughing, love, skipping, nuddy runs, skinny dipping..

Why must there be another life after this one? Why don't you just enjoy this most of all and not worry if you're in the good books of something that has the biggest chance of not proving true? Why must there be a point of life?

What you and others seem to fail to grasp is that, while I'm God-minded, I'm far from not enjoying my brief stay in this world. There is much to see and do here, and I intend on having a fun, well-lived life. Especially one fulled with the Holy Spirit. And if I'm all wrong about it, so what? That is the case, then it all never mattered in the first place and was all just a big delusion. Sorry, but that is how I see it. You're fully intitled to your opinions.

Im afraid that as hollow as you may find it, but ksslemp is correct in saying that lifes only meaning is to create life.

Why do we not have 'floating vaginas'? Floating vaginas would not be able to live and sustain themselves.

We are getting very philisophical here, but the fact of the matter is that we can only contemplate these bourgoise things since we developed a high level of intelligence in order to master our environment and sustain ourselves, so that we can produce life, and nurture that life.

Plus, it is human nature to feel that there is some kind of 'higher meaning' to our lives, it is what keeps most of us going, so this is another in built sustaining factor that is in place to ensure we produce life.

That's pretty broad. A lot of things that "Don't hurt others" have negative results that end up hurting others. For instance, smoking pot in your basement by yourself may not hurt others, except the money you spent to buy it went to support a dealer somewhere, and it allowed him to give crack to a 14 for free (to get them hooked) and you contributed to the man who ruined their life.

Did that hurt someone?
