They state in the summary that the effectiveness of prior infection is comparable to vaccination, though the data shown in Figure 4 suggests that prior infection is significantly better than vaccination after 4 months. This is quite consistent with the studies in Sweden and Israel that I linked to in this forum previously.

The Lancet is a far-north, bird positive publication that has zero credibility within the BARC community. Saxi's right about me, I cant trust publications like this that use pro-bird language like 'avian influenza' and 'bird flu'.

That was me not Saxi bro... and I'm just sharing my opinion which you are welcome to disagree with. The vaccine was released about 1 year after the inital covid outbreak happened, and while it had spread fairly widely across the globe it hadn't actually (as far as we knew) infected 'almost everyone'. Mainly because billions of people in countries all over the world were in full lockdown, not going to their jobs, not attending schools, and not interacting with others. There was still at that point a shred of hope that a vaccine which truly did prevent transmission could shield a sizable portion of the global population from ever contracting covid and that we could potentially prevent covid from being a forever disease.

Clearly that didn't work out, in part because the virus mutated and the vaccine wasn't doing a good job of preventing transmission. Partly because people like Saxi were claiming the Gov't was lying about the disease in order to exert control and permanently remove rights from its citizens, which lead to large swaths of people ignoring lockdowns and spiking transmission rates. Parsing out how much blame to assign to who isn't really important (to me), and thankfully the disease hasn't become more deadly but rather less deadly over the last 2 years.

Given the situation now, giving the vaccine to everyone is probably irresponsible. Your example of smallpox really actually shows how different these two vaccines are. Smallpox is virtually eradicated, because the vaccine effectively prevented transmission and it made sense for everyone to get it. Our current vaccine for Covid clearly does not prevent transmission effectively enough to eradicate the disease, and clearly does have some side effects in some healthy people and young adults.

With Covid still so new, it's hard to point to one clear number but I haven't read ANYTHING that suggest the vaccine reduces transmission anywhere near 90%. In fact most of what I've read in the last year suggests the vaccine doesn't effectively control transmission well at all, and really is only effective at preventing severe disease and deaths.
