It's not that you wouldn't understand it without reading the book, I just read the book a few weeks ago.

It's just.... funnier. Kinda like a painting without one certain color. It still makes sense, it's still pretty, but with the added color it's even better.

Ok I know that was probably a horrible and girlish simile, but whatever.
Who doesn't want to watch Rodents of Unusual Size, a Fire Swamp, Fencing, A guy with 6 fingers, and someone getting life sucked out of them?

Inconceivable!

"My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

It really is up there with respect to quotable movies. Lots of good lines. Very well written.

Indeed. Also, how many other movies is Andre the Giant in?

One of my all-time favourites.

But you also have to read the book to complete the experience. It is only when you take them together that you realise that, combined, they are a major work of art which addresses the essential nature of storytelling.

That sounds pompous, but go read the book anyhow, that's not pompous.

/me chops off his left nut.

There is a book!!!!!?????

/me races to the emergency room...and then the library

Um read the book to discover to what extent this is true...

Errr... yes. The movie is Peter Falk reading the book  By S. Morganstern.

Um read the book to find out to what extent this is true

Just had to say I kinda find it amusing that you quoted me saying what you said after you quoted me.

And suggsy, the movie is outstanding on its own, it's just that the book helps put the movie in context, like a lot of books do.

No. The film is great. The book is great. Either on its own is a wondrous thing. And a whole thing, complete in itself.

But, to see the film and read the book will transform your experience of both. It happens that I'd just read the book when I discovered the film. I was in the middle of the thought "this would make a great film" when I discovered that there was one. Directed by William Goldman, who wrote the book. (I will let movie buffs tell you about all the other great Goldman movies, this is not my point at this juncture).

Do both: see the film, read the book, and you will find something which is (I don't want to get all pretentious, but stay with me here, this is really something unique and I really do mean this) a multi media experience - in fact, an example of a legitmate use of a word which I usually hate - "holistic".

Since Harry Potter is the most over rated book since G. W. Bush's "Pacifism NOW!" (1999, Bullshit Publications) I have no idea.

Suggs: A book?
Sackett58: That's right. When I was your age, television was called books. And this is a special book. It was the book my father used to read to me when I was sick, and I used to read it to your father. And today I'm gonna read it to you.
Suggs: Has it got any sports in it?
Sackett58: Are you kidding? Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles...
Suggs: Doesn't sound too bad. I'll try to stay awake.
Sackett58: Oh, well, thank you very much, very nice of you. Your vote of confidence is overwhelming. And after this we will go to the Hot + Sexy +nsfw thread.
Suggs:  OK

The new box office smash "Wanking All The Way", although dramatic, and full of action packed squirts, is a pale imitation of the scholarly epic autobiograhy by S. U. Gggs - here are a few reviews of the original, classic, first edition:

"A pile of wank" - The Times
"A wanky pile of wank" - The Independant
"Great tits!" - The Sun
"A neo-chauvinistic exploration of joyous, individualistic self gratication" - The Guardian
"Appalilng" - G. Micheal
"Whats your phone number?" - S. U. Ggs.
"f*ck off, you're banned" - T. W. Ill.
