It translates as both Chanukkah and Hanukkah.

funny unrelated story (perhaps not that funny but anyway)

i worked in a sleepaway camp this summer, that drew a lot of their kids from wealthy jewish new york homes. As part of one of the long traditions of the camp, on one of the fridays each month they would eat a certain type of bread and juice (im assuming cause it was kids) along with reciting certain prayers that seemingly most good jewish kids knew. However as the camp started to include more non jewish kids over the years, i guess some PC savvy wiz decided they needed to do a non denomonation prayer.

One of my best friends (who i came to the camp with) was having a hard time with the idea that i was an atheist (since i had for a variety of reasons, hid it from him for quite some time) and he saw an oppertunity to get me i guess.

When they were looking for someone to go up there and do the non denomonation prayer, essentially my buddy very nicely volunteered me to go in front of the camp and pray. Of course once i did it the first time, they just assumed i would do it every other time.

However i think i seized the day back by getting extra pieces of that bread, which i must say by all rights, is excellent.

Agree! The best bread in the world...and you have to pronounce it right. You start the "Ch" off kind of like your coughing up some flem.

It also means "holy"...why is Challah called Challah? Anyone know?
