But Christmas isn't meant to be about gifts! Gifts were only brought into it to make it more appealing, and it did the job. Now people spend hundreds of dollars for worthless gifts.

BOOHAWHAWHAW! Thanksgivin' only comes once a year! And Santa is a hungry elf that needs to keep up his strength! Only thing is that Mrs. Claus is gonna have to spend a few hours pluckin' the feathers off that thing! But with some chestnut stuffin' and giblet gravy, it will all be well worth it!

I actually strongly support the consumerisation of Christmas. You might find that odd being that I'm against the western capitalist model.
The more companies consumerise the christian festive the less relevant it becomes. Santa is already more recognisable to children than Jesus. I bet you they'll be praying for the new transformer rather than some phony "eternal life" this holiday!
SPOILER ALERT:Plus you get the added benefit that when they finally find out Santa doesn't exist - they'll realise that the whole Jebus things a con too!
Pretty soon people will forget all about the nativity and the religious message. This can only be a good thing in my book.

I can already see lots of religious festivals being gradually taken over by commercial interests. Easter, certain Saints Days (St Paddies, St Andrews etc) Shrove Tuesday... Pretty soon we'll be seeing special Ramadan lunch boxes (obviously nothing in them) and "light and sound" dradles (batteries not included).

We can get round to phasing out the consumerism later on too
