An mp3 player should be able to store and play mp3 files. That's enough.

I got my 2GB for 35€ I think. That's enough for roughly 30 hours of music. I don't see why anyone would need an mp3 player with 80GB and pay several hundred € or $ for it. Maybe prices have gone down by now, but I shouldn't think so.

well, apple is most popular since you can sort music pretty easily- it literally is plug in, and drag and drop music. the click wheel is a nice touch that other mp3s do not have, but other than that they lack more practical features like a FM radio tuner. i think that iPods also have planned obsolescence [when, after a while the device stops functioning, and doesn't last a lifetime] but i myself have never experienced this (i've owned 3 iPods, 2 shuffles and 1 nano).
also, flash drives are not only battery efficient but they're better for those who use mp3s to exercise or just move around. dropping an iPod video (hard drive) might cause it to lose memory, or running and jumping can cause the sound to skip, while the nano has a flash drive and has none of these flaws.
