You always complain there's no rain where you live!
Shame that California doesn't experience good old British weather!
Right now there's a storm front the size of Brazil heading this way!

It's mostly southern CA. I think Malibu is the current worst. :(

Californian's have screwed up their state so much, their residents are fleeing to Nevada, Oregon, Washington......They have screwed it up so bad that animals take priority over humans....they have screwed it up so bad that illegal immigrants take priority over other state requirements and resources....and now the state is on fire and they can't put it out. You want my opinion? LET IT BURN.

'Cause Nevada's a bastion of sane municipal planning, intelligent land use, Solomonic lawmaking, unsullied politics, and common-sense economics, right?

I bet you're a real laugh at parties.

Wow, some nice next-to-state Americans here.

Why does it bother you so much that they can't put out the fires? You would be fucking scared for your life if you were there.

Have you even been in a bush-fire? Have you ever experienced a black-out due to fires around your city, your house, your neighbourhood?

Well everyone I'm back home, the worst has past after the last two nights. Thanks for all the prayers :)

The Santiago Canyon fire is the one affecting us. The first night it was about 100 yards away from our houses, maybe closer. From my driveway I could see the woodchips in a playground my friends and I frequent burning up. That's when we were evacuated.

I went to school the next day, and started driving home and from a distance it looked like four nukes had been dropped around my neighborhood... no joke. There were four huge black mushroom clouds. Turned out we were surrounded on three sides by four fires, but the cops were letting us in. Our family decided to stay to keep the trees and such wet so as to prevent embers from starting new fires.

So we hosed everything down every hour or so, and watched the fires burn. It wasn't quite as scary as the night before... I think we're fairly used to seeing flames now, and they didn't seem to be moving.

Looking out my driveway this morning I think three of them are out, but one of them is still going strong. Good thing is, the flames haven't moved since last night. A friend commented that it looks like Mt. Doom, and that's as accurate as I can get. It's on fire and there's a really creepy red glow around it...

Anyways, us and our home is safe, thanks again everyone! We're lucky that we got to return home so quickly, there are many others in and out of my area without a home to return to, so keep them in your prayers!

Do you have any pictures? You should be taking some, it'll make a great story for you grandchildren someday. And apocalyptic landscapes make for excellent wallpapers.

How damaged is your area? Any important buildings burnt down or anything like that.

Well I don't have my camera, I just have my cell phone. The most dramatic moments have always been at night, and my phone can't handle the light of the flames at night, they're THAT bright. The hill that I can see from my driveway looked like frickin' Mt. Doom!

Anyways, I took a few in the daytime of the flames while they were a little over a quarter mile away, here's a few:

And here was my drive home yesterday... taken a few miles away from my house see what I mean about it looking like we were being bombed?

alright the pics work now. Enjoy I guess...

The FBI has declared that it was arson with clear intent, and are offering a 50k reward for the guy who did it.

Good riddance... my favorite drive through a two-lane canyon road with a canopy of oak trees has already been destroyed, not to mention several homes.

Too keep things in perspective, this is what that burning hillside USED to look like...

That was the most beautiful church i've ever been to... they're fighting to keep it safe right now.

I wonder what the guy who started this feels right now...

I heard on the news there are over a million people evacuated now, and thousands of houses burned...

Good News though...

The Malibu fire is contained...

I was evacuated Monday, but I made it home yesterday. I live in Encinitas. The fire got closer than 3 miles away from my house, but the winds saved me. GL to the rest of ya.

Theres about 23 seperate fires in California. They suspect arson for 2 of them and an arrest has been made for someone starting one. The fire that threatened me wasn't arson. If it was, I'd have killed him by now =D. If the arsonist are caught, they will be charged with murder.
