I think there was more to newton than being struck by fruit. Nevertheless, the earth is travelling 'upwards' at around 9m/s. This is what you mistake for 'gravity'.

And I thought mandalorians were smart.
If (it is) the Earth is round, then there is no top of the Earth.
Just as The Universe has no "top".

That is the gist of my anti-roundness argument: If the Earth was round, we would all slide off!

Ah, but now we have this new-fangled invention called gravity.
It convieniently stops you from falling into the abyss.

Actually, gravity is what makes you fall if you ar not standing on top of something. Don't take my word for it. Climb up a tree and try standing on the bottom side of any given branch.

And the reason you fall? A few trillion bits of rock, metal and assortments decided to pull you that way. This is gravity. Try standing on the top side of a branch in Australia, the same thing happens.

Nobody is pulling you! You are just standing on the wrong side of the branch. And of course, the same would apply for "Australia" if a place like that existed (you would just have to check if the roots can hold the combined weight of you and the tree).

9 m/s

Postby Natali on Sat Oct 20, 2007 2:42 pm

If the earth is travelling "upwards" 9 m/s we wouldn't notice it, because we cannot sense uniform movement. In that case earth would have to accelerate constantly 9 m/s and only then we cold sense upward movement as gravity.

Indeed. And if that happened, we would've already far exceeded the speed of light.

Not if all the light sources accelerate by the same rate (since Earth is a closed system). :P

That wouldn't actually matter. You cannot go faster than the speed of light and when that happens our mass is infinite.

What was the purpose of you posting this, heavycola? Were you trying to imply that most Christians believed in a flat earth and that we are anti-science? The Flat Earth Society is a cult not recognized by almost all Christian bodies.

The picture in your Avi could be used to prove that kid is doggie-styling that women in a public place and through her jeans (which probably isn't true). Pictures can be edited, you know.

Also, I hope you are not seriusly considering the fact that 'somebody else said so' to be a proof of anything.
