I wouldn't have said Mr Sunak was all that hairy.

And it's over. Conservative Party MPs have decided that a fourth female Prime Minister was probably a bit much and chosen Rishi Sunak, who will now become head of the British Empire.

Appropriately this means that the UK has chosen its first Hindu Prime Minister on Diwali. I'll take my chai to go!

Is he still a practicing Hindu, though? In the U.S., Hindus are expected to convert to Christianity before - sometimes just weeks before - they run for office (e.g. Nikki Haley).

However, if he is still Hindu, it's auspicious he became Britain's first Hindu prime minister on the first day of Diwali.

Yeah, he swore his parliamentary path or whatever it's called on a Hindu sacred text and there have been photos of him doing various Hindu things while in office.

It's weird, the US is officially secular and yet seems to make everyone be Christian whereas the UK is officially Christian and yet doesn't really enforce it at all. You could be Hindu and be the monarch, even though the monarch is head of the Church of England.

In America you can be ANY religion! You can be Methodist, Lutheran, Anglican, Roman Catholic, Presbyterian, Orthodox, Mennonite, Pentecostal, Quaker, Baptist, Christian Science, Disciples of Christ, Anabaptist, or Congregationalist. The choice is up to you!

Question - when will independent India get its first English prime minister?
