gives a little bit better overview then.

What countries relies on USA military? just curious

I don't know what this graph is supposed to represent.

And, a lot of countries in NATO have a decreased defense budget because the US contributes a very significant portion. The US has several military bases in NATO countries to help prevent conflicts with other countries. This helps these countries that are somewhat reliant on the US military to focus more on economic growth. This is just one example.

But the US spends 10x what Russia is spending, Russia being the logical party for Europe to be defending itself against. EU spending as a whole outweighs Russian spending, and unlike Russia Their stuff isn't blowing up all the time because they can't pay for maintainence But we can't cut any of that money because it's spending both sides of the American political isle agree on (mostly)

An important factor that hasn't been mentioned here yet. Greenland is extremely eco-aware. Denmark has known about the mineral, gas- and oil reserves in Greenland for ages. The Inuit tribes refused any access rights and Denmark granted them their right to decide over their own land. The locals are afraid of any environmental consequences resource exploitation might have. In light of this, the USA seems like a very poor choice of an overlord, considering American reputation in eco-policies and overall pro-oil mindedness.

It has now been one week and Denmark has STILL not transferred Greenland to the United States.

Today, President Trump canceled his state visit to Denmark in retaliation over Denmark's insulting demeanor in refusing to transfer Greenland.

If Denmark does not make a good faith effort to agree to a realistic timetable for the swift and orderly transfer of Greenland to the United States it may face greater escalation than simply a canceled visit. Greenland is the rightful and vital property of the U.S. and must be made into a territory of the United States. This has gone on for 150 years, it's time to end it now.

US President Donald Trump has called the Danish leader "nasty" after she rebuffed his idea of buying Greenland.

He lashed out hours after Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said she was "sorry" that Mr Trump had abruptly called off a state visit to Denmark.

Queen Margrethe II invited Mr Trump to visit Denmark on 2 September, and the manner of his cancellation has stunned the Scandinavian nation.

The cancellation was described as a "farce" by the leader of the populist Danish People's Party, Kristian Thulesen Dahl.

"What is this man thinking of though? And with grounds that are worthy of an April Fools' joke," he tweeted.

A spokeswoman for the leftist Red-Green Alliance, Pernille Skipper, said: "Trump lives on another planet."

what an interesting article....

In its attempts to dissect the global disinformation epidemic, the BBC handily forgets its own history of 'fake news'.

In 1953 a BBC program was used to broadcast a secret signal on behalf of the security services, therefore the BBC 'has a history of fake news'? Okay bro.

Denmark needs America more than America needs Denmark.

There's an easy way to do this, and a hard way.

The U.S. can buy Greenland from Denmark like we bought the Dutch West Indies from them. Or, the U.S. can buy Greenland from Denmark like it bought Arizona from Mexico.

Denmark surrendered to Germany after less than five hours of fighting in 1940. In 2019 against the U.S., I'd give Copenhagen about 45 minutes before the white flags go up.

*yawn* so now this is the 'NP picks faults in the BBC' thread? As per the OP this is supposed to be the 'Trump has finally gone crazy' thread. I know you have your personal barriers but please do try to stay vaguely on topic.

Denmark should have accepted the 1910 offer.

An internal proposal for acquisition of Greenland was circulated within the United States Government in 1910 by Maurice Francis Egan. Under the proposal, the United States would annex both Greenland and the Danish West Indies, but cede Mindanao to Denmark as compensation for its loss, with the view that Denmark could – in turn – trade Mindanao to Germany for Northern Schleswig. At the time, Denmark had not yet ceded the Danish West Indies to the United States, which it would do seven years later, while Northern Schleswig had yet to be annexed by Denmark from Germany, a move that would occur after the German defeat in World War I.
