The problem is that people think that those in the service industry are a replacement for domestic servants. They aren't.

They are like domestic servants except you share them with other people. It’s like getting Ubers instead of buying a car.

That’s why it’s called the service sector.

Exactly. You share them with other, less classy and less desirable people, which ruins their efficacy.

Instead of getting good service, you now get "lowest common denominator" service.

Yet people still think they can get better service by crying "take me to your taskmaster".

Yes if the service they received is not what is expected at that store. At a Publix Market I expect my groceries to be bagged, put into a shopping cart and someone offer to take them to the car for me. At Wal-Mart I expect my groceries to be bagged. At an Aldi I expect to bag my own groceries. After all you are paying more at some stores and you should expect better service.

As far as the example with the tomatoes I would have expected the cashier at any store to get a bag and put the tomatoes in it. I would bet dollars to donuts that the manager would have expected the cashier to put the tomatoes in another bag.

lol. You pick up loose tomatoes, dump them in your basket loose, then take them elsewhere in the store and ask someone else to put them in a bag for you? Do you also get someone else to tie up your shoe laces and wipe your ass for you?

Who still uses staffed checkouts anyway?

All this chatter about wanting staff to put their groceries in a bag for them, I got confused.

Bottom line!

If you are the type that asks to "speak to the manager" and especially if you are the type that does it "on a regular basis" then you are one or more of the following....

1. Cop
2. Wanna-be cop or security guard
3. Complete douche bag
4. Entitled prick
5. Someone with ED
6. Malcontent Bitch (like a BBQ Becky)

There are only a few socially acceptable ways to as to speak to the manager. Asking directly is uncouth, of course:

1) Do you know who i am? No? Get someone who does.
2) I asked for the organ grinder and they sent me the monkey?
3) I need to talk to someone less lesser than you.
4) Tell the owner that I know this is a front for the cartel, and that I just want to talk about the missing girls.
the world is in greater peril from those who tolerate or encourage evil than from those who actually commit it- Albert Einstein
