Comey/Trump- Who do you trust?

I just remembered another lie Comey accused Trump of. Trump lied about the FBI wiretapping Trump tower. Again, either way it's irrelevant.

On the matter of why it's not a safe bet to just assume that Trump is going to get burned over this and that optics matter, Diane Feinstein just said something on CNN today. Feinstein is the top democrat on the Senate Judiciary committee. She was talking about Comey's testimony about Lynch pressuring him to say "matter" instead of "investigation" in relation to the FBI investigation of Hilary's server snafu. This to match Hilary's campaign spin on the issue. Investigation carries certain unfavorable connotations which should be fairly obvious. "Matters" just isn't as ominous a term. Feinstein said that the Judiciary committee should "take a look at that". Comey testified that he felt "queasy" when Lynch pressured him and Feinstein agrees that she too would have felt "queasy" had she been in Comey's place.

The cynic in me wants to remind people that Feinstein faces reelection come the midterms so she's just saying this to cover her ass. Feinstein also echoed my own sentiments in that I don't know if anything Trump has done amounts to obstruction. Feinstein said-

“I don't know whether it's obstruction of justice. I don’t intend to draw any conclusions until investigations are finished

It seems Feinstein has a bit more sense than our dear ole Bernie here on CC. Here is the exchange so you all can see for yourselves-



The top Demorat in the Judiciary committee is hedging herself. It goes to the point that the Dems and Repubes need to be very careful how they approach this stuff cause they know that if they try some shady stuff it'll turn bad quick. Comey's testimony isn't nearly enough to seek obstruction charges. Feinstein knows and she's a true blood Demorat who hates Trump with a passion. But she's not stupid enough to toss all her eggs into the Comey basket because she knows it for what it is, something that amounts to just hearsay. At least thus far. Things could change. If only someone had some tape recordings.......

Ya know, if it'd been up to Lynch, according the Comey, the FBI would be changed to the FBM, The Federal Bureau of Matters instead of Investigation. Har!

Almost every politician faces re-election at some point P. Throwing mud and hoping that some sticks to Trump's critics isn't really a good strategy for the WH to pursue. It's classic "preaching to the converted" stuff.

You have a fair point though- a lot of Republicans are up for re-election too. As Trump becomes more toxic, they will have to face an electorate who will judge them on their actions as well as partisan politics.

Rumours abound that Trump is considering firing Mueller as his investigation might interfere with Trump's Presidency. That would be an interesting move.
