It's hard to say. Lincoln was strong on the constitution but he was also a product of the industrial north and a strong supporter of the Transcontinental Railroad.
His motivation against slavery was in some odd ways similar to Trump's motivation against illegal immigration (the party's original opposition was the advancement of slavery into the territories in part because slave labor would unfairly compete with free labor putting free men out of work).
