I don't think anyone mocks the Bible as such. They mock people who would base their understanding of the world on a book of fairy tales, no matter how rich and delightful that book is.

I don't think many people mock Grimm's fairy tales, either, but if you were to turn around and pretend that they were the revealed word of "God" I would definitely mock you for that.

But what about all of the different books that make up the bible? The Bible was made by man. The words in the books in the bible however, were not. The people that created the bible for their own benefit politically, tried to hide the Book of Enoch because it gives a bright look at the truth. It was only discovered in 1984, in pretty sure. Although, I keep an open mind about most of these types of discussions, I love different outlooks on things, that's the main reason I posted this was to get different opinions. Having said that, maybe it's possible the books of the bible have been underwritten by someone or somebodies. It's fun to ponder, unless it affects how you operate in order to survive, and then it's a little too serious.

First and foremost, the Bible is not a science textbook. "The Bible tells us how to go to heaven, not how the heavens go."

Secondly, I've known a lot of physicists. I went to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and studied physics. We had a lot of radio astronomers as professors. None of them tended to "mock" anything. That's not how science works.

The problem is with people who think that the Bible is a science textbook. In fact they consider the Bible as a "book" and not a collection of "books" which in turn has lost is general meaning, The nuances of the many works that make up the collection of books of the Bible is lost on them. It's not only scientists who look at them funny. They are also funny (and sad in a strange way) from a religious point of view as well.

Science is not a set group of people or ideas, its a process. You find evidence, form theories, test them and, in time, come up with few facts, along with a lot more theories.

Because being brilliant in a particular field doesn't automatically mean you understand faith or are even a nice person. It is in the nature of most scientists to question, that is part of why they became scientists. As a result, they tend to question, even deride basically any idea they don't (yet) accept. BUT, the really important part is that even among the most critical of scientists, there is always a fair contingent of people of faith. They are not incompatible. People who seek answers, are open to possibilities are often naturally open to religious speculation. Its just that some want to accept (or think they accept anyway) ONLY that which can be tangibly proven in a testable way. Others, while certainly accepting tangible evidence are more willing to explore the intangible, including religion.

In fact, though there are plenty who disagree with me, I would actually argue that we would not have science without religion, that religion is the original process of defining/quantifying the universe in a way that we can understand (that is, religion is the term for our understanding of God).
