It's not like I bear any personal ill will toward Ilitch (save for the annoying commercials for his pizza chain). He did pump a lot of money into the team to pull them out of the Dead Wings era, and those late 90's early 00's teams were just death. But I hear these things about borderline-absurd prices for playoff tickets, and it just sounds like greed. When you start pricing your fans out of big games, you're going to suffer. And now the Tigers have their act together again (finally), and the Pistons are badass, and the Lions... well, the Lions continue to be a franchise in the NFL.
Eh, that Hockeytown thing always felt like a bit of a gimmick. Shouldn't Montreal be Hockeytown?
You might not have heard of our protest march back in '05 against Millen. Millen and the Fords might be the most hated people in Detroit. Ilitch with his ticket prices... yeah, you can say it's greed, a business man might say they just overestimated intrest versus the willingness to pay. Lower prices for the Wings, raise them for the Tigers, and he'd sell more hockey tickets, and probably just as many baseball tickets. Something old, something new.
Oh and I hate his pizza commercials too, I thought maybe they were only local. Poor rest of the country.
And I agree, Montreal should be Hockeytown, I've always felt that way. Canada lives and dies hockey, but, trademarks are trademarks.
