That's basically what I was going for.

Everyone has their own personal concepts that grow out of what we are exposed to.

I guess I'll answer the question. If someone that's much smarter then me has a need to flame me about my beliefs. Please start a dedicated thread about it in Flame wars I'll come bicker with you.

I refuse religion of any kind.

I cannot properly develop my thoughts, beliefs or emotional attachment to concepts while restricting them to the authority of anyone elses.

I guess the closest human ideas that I cannot find fault with are Paul of the bible. That includes where he writes to a church to reprimand them for some of the followers attaching themselves to him.

I'm one of those "scary" fundametalist, evangelical Christians.

why? because it's the only one out there that I have ever heard about or seen that can fully answer all thoe questions as: what the purpose of life is, how we got here and what happens when we die, etc.

Eww, I hope you're joking Vic.

So yeah because of it's nature Religion stirs emotion and reduces our capacity for logic, but that's what makes it so good.

It helps men to think like women and experience that part of our brain we usually reserve for sex.

yeah i was just joking bro.

you are correct, religion is mostly your own perception of certain teachings etc. making them beliefs; hence it is pretty personal, ya?

it is fun to talk about such things when not sober tho. lol.

Moderate catholic

Moderate, in that I believe evolution (hell, look at the story of creation, and tell me, how else would you explain cosmology, evolution etc to a society that would think you were mad if you started to mentioncells!) etc, and see science and religion as aiming for the same goals.

They fit rather well together, when taken with a certain amount of research over blind faith. (eg, knowledge that 40 days and 40 nights are not literal time periods, but an old coloquialism for "a very long time")

I am a Methodist but also go to the local Mosque. Variety is the key to happiness. :D I would never put down any religion as i would want people to respect my beliefs but I also do not care for those that "bible thump" if i want to learn about your religion i will go to your church. Don't corner me while I am out for a walk and don't knock on my damn door!

Those atheists (not all) need to take their heads out their arses, and those evangelicals need a swift education befoer they spread any more lies.

I really hate the general ignorance towards religion - too many say "well, thats what it says here" and point at either religious texts without understandig their history, or at science without understanding its processes and limitations.

For my part, i am a heavily-atheist-leaning agnostic - but only agnostic in the sense that we can never, any of us, actually know. I am not going to call anyone with a different set of beliefs a moron, unless those beliefs are as ridiculous as creationism, the rapture and all the other nonsense that the fundagelical talibanettes believe, in which case it is my duty as a rational human being to say something, especially when there are 80 million of these deluded cultists wandering unchecked around the US.
Screw political correctness. These guys make the scientologists look almost reasonable, which is reason enough to point out their insanity. It's not harmless anymore, it ties into so many important issues - abortion, tolerance, human rights, teh middle east - that we can't let this spread unchecked. I have plenty of xian friends in the UK, all of them lovely, balnaced people to whom this is as much nonsense as it is to me.

I'm an atheist. When agnostic friends ask me what makes me take such a certain, hard-line stance, I tell them that I not only don't believe in a god, I'm opposed to the idea of a god. I am morally opposed to religion, especially at the point that religions become exercises of faith and conformity rather than just guiding philosophies for a happy life.

However, I'd never attack a person for their religion, and I generally try to avoid most debates on religion, as pointless argument is contrary to MY guiding philosophy for a happy life.

I admit that some of my beliefs concerning the nature of the universe involve a certain degree of faith, especially in the realm of theoretical physics, but I am perfectly willing to abandon any of them once something more plausible comes along.

I LOVE arguing about religion, and performing the occasional double-360-backflip-troll, but that apart...

Very well put. Again.
