my favourite is Clapton, the 2 Jimis and Randy Bachman, oh and David Gilmour and Barret too.

Yea but Syd Barrett was nowhere near the guitar player that Gilmour was, so I assumed that he was talking about Gilmour. And uhhh, Syd Barrett didn't die, he left/was kicked out of the band. In fact, I'm pretty sure that Syd Barrett just died in 2006.

Please enlighten us as to who he, for lack of a better word, copied.

Wow, good taste. No Christopher Parkening?

And in response to the topic, my two favorite guitarists are Trey Anastasio and Robert Fripp...I don't expect very many here to know who tthey are...

There is no way he even deserves to be on that list. I'm sorry but I have to disagree.

A. Tom Morello is a beast who is extremely good at getting any sound to come out of a guitar. I hear he is practically dancing when he performs live because of all the pedal switches. However, his chord progressions and guitar arrangements are uninspired. He does not rank among "the best."

B. So he can shred and he can sweep. Too bad he can't play the guitar with conviction like Jeff Beck or Johnny Winter. Being "fast" isn't the only attribute that makes a guitarist good or bad. In my opinion this guy sucks ass.

Agreed... while I think Nirvana was a good band, I wouldn't put Kurt Cobain that high. Also, I read somewhere about that list how they admited they made a mistake not including Stone Gossard and Mike McCready from Pearl Jam. It seems like they spent very little actually time putting the list together.

I agree, however, when you make a list that is supposed to countdown the best guitarists and you put the guy who practically killed the guitar solo at number 12 then the list is bunk. Don't get me wrong I love Nirvana, but that list is bullshit.

Also they have Robert Randolph on that list and he plays Pedal Steel Guitar, an entirely different instrument. Might as well put Andres Segovia on there because he was the best classical guitarist ever.

I agree, however, when you make a list that is supposed to countdown the best guitarists and you put the guy who practically killed the guitar solo at number 12 then the list is bunk.
Dude, Angus Young is 96.

Which makes the list worse, right? You're entitled to your opinion of who killed the guitar solo...

Not really, but you understand my point, sort of.

You don't understand Kurt Cobain's art and I don't enjoy what Angus does with his art live. To be honest I enjoy Angus' solos as recorded.

Guitar solos are subjective because they are art, as is the whole list.

It doesn't really matter who is on the list because it is someone else's list.

Your list might have some of the same artists on it but is not likely to have them all and even if it did the order would probably be different.

Nothing can make the list wrong because it's opinion.

You're right (Except for the Kurt Cobain part...I do listen to and appreciate his music), I'm not sure if I called the list wrong; I think I just called it bullshit.

Anyway back to awesome guitarists!

How about John Butler, Buckethead, and Michael Melchiondo (Aka Dean Ween)?
