Prowler, he may have misunderstood the antiwar sentiments of Born In The USA. Whatever. My point was that at least he was contributing something positive to the discussion. The guy has passion for what he likes, and thats what i respect.
Again, Led Zep are a good example. I'm not a fan, yet get Cola talking about them, and its difficult not to be converted, as his love of the music shines through.

You seemed to have perfected the art of bored cyncism -which bores me.Get some tolerance and passion!

TP, i'm glad you like Lennon and the Beatles, but there not to everyones liking. i think they are a bit overated, a bit like Elvis Pressley.

how long are them albumns that you can listen to both uninterupted and have time to contemplate them. so that's like 2/3 hours worth of music. chance would be a fine thing to get that amount of time to myself. i like music, but it's not the be all and end all. if i had to choose between music and sport, music would have to go. they've just banned music from my workplace(need an entertainment licence).

i usually have radio 1 on whilst on the computer, i have many an albumn, but don't need to listen to them all the time to remember the ones i love.

anyway you can say it's just another PC jumping on the band-wagon, but your wrong. i have the same kind of music tastes as suggs, i don't think i'll ever get my head around Led Zep(load of bollocks to me), but if that what people like fair enough. just like Pink Floyd, you must be tripping to listen to some of their music. i watched the film The Wall, shitting hell. i hate all Heavy Metal music, but love Nirvana. like a lot of old school Rap, but think Tu Pac is shit, the best thing that happened to him was getting shot(same thing could be said about Lennon :D ).

Yeah, getting shot did Lennon's credibility a lot of good.
He was churning out total garbage music wise at the time, and had been for 4 years or so.

I am aware that the song "Born in the USA" was wah, wah Vietnam-sucks-drivel. I am also aware that the media and the common man reacted to the entire album as a anthem to patriotism. While a certain someone was polishing Lennox Lewis' knob behind the gym in high school in Canada, I was watching classmates roll up their short sleeve shirts just that little bit extra to impersonate the "Boss". Blech.

Other reasons to hate that ALBUM was the rampant use of synthesizers and Courtney Cox in videos derived therefrom.

if we wanted chicks we'd be talking up Miles or Coltrane. In fact I can't believe how few jazz albums have been mentioned so far.

Stop! Take some time to think, figure out what's important to you.

suggs, have you no integrity? Are you infected with the "must disagree with TheProwler" bug?

He said "before patriotism of Born in USA made me want to barf" which is not only an incorrect statement, it is highly negative to The Boss.

There's no other way to spin it suggs. I have once again educated someone where they were misinformed.

About what exactly? You didn't say. That compilations don't have a place in a true music lover's Top 10 Albums? That is an opinion. It can be debated, but it can't be proven right or wrong.

Boy, just another PC jumping on the bandwagon.

Di you not read his response? It was a fair point I thought -along the lines of the whole Springstein hysteria at the time of "USA" pissed him off.
I only disagree with you when you're talking balls. I've yet to hear you talk sense.

Your one and only tactic of "wind up merchant" is a bit futile, old bean. You're talking to a Past Master 8-)

whats important to me in this thread is that people talk about the music they like with honesty and passion. Apart from your list, you've just been on 'ooo, i think i m good at mind games, lets do that AGAIN.
Shame really, you probably had something to say at some pint in the past.

John Lennon didn't release a new album from 1976 to 1979 (unless there were some of your beloved compilations in there). Rock'n Roll in 1975 was his last release until Double Fantasy in 1980.

He was dedicated to "making bread" and raising his son from late 1975 until early 1980.

four years or so.
don't you get embarrassed by your boring pedantry.
Anyway, I 'd go further and say the vast majority of stuff he did post Beatles was prettty average, and of course, his vioce got even worse.
Still, what could you expect from Mac's junior partner?

I read it...the same thing happened in my area. The anti-USA adolescent mindset took over and people were blinded. But to hold that against the artist or the album would be illogical and, to be honest, would embarrass me.

I personally, knowing Bruce Springsteen a little, chose at the time to listen to the tunes and get an understanding for the lyrics. It was a pretty catchy pop/less rock album for him, but I thought it was quite good. I didn't get carried away in the new-found fans hysteria, but I liked the album. I saw one of his concerts in Toronto on that tour too. It was a great show...about 3 hours long and was the E Street Band as tight and powerful as ever. I am not going to be turned off an artist or his work because of public opinion.

And regarding your unfounded allegation that I am trying to wind-up people, I simple pointed out to you that MBBB is a compilation. You reacted much more harshly that necessary. For a "Past Master", you are pretty tightly wound.

Oh, and I don't talk to my beer.

there is no argument. Prowler's favourite albums come from the same band or from two of its members - how many albums have ever been produced, and how many can he have listened to to keep going back to the beatles (yawn)? The word Unimaginative springs to mind.

Also interesting was the lack, in his top 10 or 'honourable mentions', of a single black artist. In a 'knowledgeable music lover's' 10 favourite albums, it could be an oversight, but he listed 28. It's hard to believe a 'knowledgeable music lover' would include Green Day in his list yet would fail to even give a nod to the overwhelming contribution made by black musicians. There is some blues rock in there - oh wait, it's the Stones and George Thorogood.

'a knowledgeable music lover' - uh huh, right. A fraud, more like. Or maybe a big fat racist.

You can certainly criticize me for liking the Beatles too much...I guess...but I'm just a big fan and I know them a lot better than any other band...I do listen to a tonne of other music though....I just happen to like The Beatles and some of their solo stuff a little more...

Ummm...Keith Richards and a host of other rock guitarists owe much credit to Chuck Berry for his solo licks. When I pick up a guitar and play alone, I almost always spend a few minutes playing Chuck Berry type leads. I have a few Chuck Berry Greatest Hits type albums and I like the guy's music.

The influence of Elmore James and Muddy Waters is apparent in a lot of music I listen to....although I do admit that I typically prefer the music that has evolved to the original music in most cases.

There's been a lot of talk about Led Zeppelin. It is well-known that they ripped off Robert Johnson time and time again. I have all of Robert Johnson's recordings and prefer to listen to him over Led Zeppelin. His guitar work was revolutionary.

Big Sugar is a band I like....black dude in that band...saw them live and he was quite a good performer.

Billy Preston's keyboard skills were a huge contribution to the Let it Be album.

I fuckin' love Little Richard.

Eric Burdon is another great singer that I love. Oh yeah, he just wanted to be black.

Whatever, you are just trying to push buttons.

Prowler< i meant Lennon's mst recent releases before his death. Whatever they were. Utterly forgettable shite. My point was, which for some reason you can't seem to grasp, is that he had been on the wane for years as a song writer. Granted,McCartney too. and fair enough really -you can't keep writing the classics forever, unless you are Mozza, and get new songwriting partners 8-)
