Trump gambles on splitting Biden's base with riot rhetoric
For him, there is political opportunity in pitting moderate whites against African Americans: They are the two groups Democratic challenger Joe Biden most needs to win the presidency in November, and they formed the core of Biden's base as he pursued his party's nomination.
That gave Trump incentive to articulate sympathy for George Floyd, the black man killed by police in Minneapolis on Monday, while also inciting racial conflict and promising to quell that conflict with force.

The police are authorized to use as much violence as necessary to ensure compliance with the law and the primacy of the state. A person who is arrested may be subject to continuing violence if they attempt to resist.
Feral humans tend to die, disproportionately, at the hands of police because they do not have logic centers in their brains that can connect violence to which they are subject to their own acts of resistance. Like wild animals, when cornered, they simply lash out and try to escape. It is a sad state of affairs but our Darwinian world is a rough place and even more so for those who are not prepared to live in it, like feral humans.

Though you’ve avoided answering direct questions I have posed, I will be more courteous and give you a direct answer.
No, in this case I disagree.
I do think that there are times and places where police tactics are/have been too heavy-handed.
I believe that the tactics and behavior of the murderer(s) of George Floyd were too aggressive.
... but the protests have escalated into riots and I don’t blame that on the police.
Looting and riots cannot be allowed to continue and at some point the police/authorities may have to come down hard on people who escalate these incidents. If you have one day/night of protest that spontaneously escalates into a riot, you can blame that on police tactics and/or on righteous anger of protestors manifesting itself in the wrong way. If however the riots and looting continue night after night... you have to admit that a significant percentage of people participating are going out LOOKING FOR and EXPECTING a little rioting action.
In Boston last night the protests en masse were peaceful for hours... but as the night wore on, and essentially the majority of protesters were wrapping it up for the night, some of them (enough of them) decided that they might as well get a little smashing and looting in before bed. This all despite that fat that march organizers were on the news all day yesterday saying they “were determined to have a peaceful protest” and that they wants to “demonstrate their frustration in a proper way”.![]()
Some news reports blame “outside elements”, and depending on what news you listen to these “outside forces” may be “Right Wing” survivalist types, Racist groups, “Lefties”, or “anarchists”. I don’t know if any of this is true.
I personally think that there are multiple factors at bay, it not generally “outside elements”. I blame...
* obviously the root cause which is righteous indignation of the murder of George Floyd (among others).
* I think there is just a lot of pent up anger and emotion in the air due to the fact that people have been stuck at home with the Covid virus... and this is acting as a ‘release’ for many. Frustration manifesting itself in the wrong way.
* individual opportunists taking advantage of the energy and chaos to have a little “fun” or get a free TV.
The news is playing in the background as I type this and they’re parroting the same point I made two days ago... the quote was “where largely peaceful protests have been overshadowed by violence and looting”.
I don’t agree with Amnesty International (on that specific point). I have my opinions, but can’t claim to know what the cause of the escalation from protest to riot is. I do know that riots/looting don’t help and are a distraction from the real issue... and ‘turn off’ the majority of middle class Americans who just wanna get on with their own lives. You need to win these people over and you don;t accomplthis with riots and looting.

That a wave of “race riots” has broken out as Trump is in the throes of an existential fight to stay in power has to be looked on as a gift from heaven by many in his camp.

On Sunday morning Tim Walz, the Democratic governor of Minnesota, justified extending the curfew another night by saying “bad actors continue to infiltrate the rightful protests of George Floyd’s murder”. Yet local reporting by the Star Tribune found that of the 57 arrests on Saturday related to protests and rioting, 47 were for Minnesotans. When asked about the discrepancy at a press conference on Sunday evening, Mr Walz said it changed nothing.

it looks like they are showing their support to their fellow officer reproducing his lethal technique.

Nice! The Coroner's autopsy is the only one admissible at trial. Awesome the Coroner is a team player!

Glad to hear that you have therefore revised your opinion of the way the Hong Kong riots were policed and now accept that Hong Kong police were actually being quite restrained in the face of mobs who were smashing up shops, setting fire to businesses and subway stations, and attacking police officers.
The US response to the George Floyd riots has been to put the army onto the streets in 15 different states (i.e. all the states where there have been riots). In hindsight, the CCP would clearly have been 100% justified in putting the army onto the streets of Hong Kong. The fact they did not shows that the CCP is immeasurably more restrained and tolerant of protests than the USG.
