I'm still not liking this whole "taking the USSR to represent Marxism thing... WHICH IT DIDN'T AND NEVER DID!" thing, but... ya heard of Sputnik? Crazy commies figured out a computer or two.

What?

Sputnik was the first Soviet sattelite.

I know. He has no idea what my point was though. Anarchy keeps saying people should only keep what they need, but he doesn't need a computer, so he is in violation of his own doctrine

i said "give what you can take only what you need" sure i dont need my computer in the sense you are refering to but is that any reasons to throw it out? you obviously misinterpreted the message. there are lots of things that people do not need thats no reason to not have them is it?

Do you believe they would have developed these things without the pressure brought on them from the worlds democracies?

If by that you mean the exact opposite, than you're right, as Sputnik, the world's first man-made satellite, forced the West to consider how an "inferior" economic system had bested them, and forced them to redouble their space program to prove to the world that capitalism was better. So, pressure from the Soviet sphere forced the ... ahem... [stifled giggle]... "democracies" [bursts into laughter] to reconsider their system.

And I congratulate you. But, what's this? Applying yourself? Getting an education? Things that we are telling you and everyone you represent to do?

Not sure what risk has to do with this. At birth what made you more deserving of your privileges than the next baby? Do I think everyone should have an opportunity for success? Yes.

my last post before I go to bed. There are 3 things a person needs to do to "break the cycle" and get out of povert.
1) GET EDUCATED!!!!!!(you can do it)
2) don't have babies before you're ready (use a condom)
3) Don't get into drugs

Not sure who I represent to you...

But I am privileged. I recognize that I have had much more help in succeeding than many students can ever hope to get.

okay, I lied. This is my last post for real. Yes, Everyone should have a chance at success, which they do in capitalism. But if you even everything out from the start, when the two babies grow up, they will be forced to live under the same conditions as each other, even if one person is more talented that the other. This creates a society completely made up of lower middle class people. By giving everybody an equal chance to succeed, you are giving no one a chance.

Man, I am b.o.r.e.d.
Anyways, the differences between Russian-style communism (boo!) and Marxism (yay!) are far too many for me to document at 2:13 with two papers due tomorrow ( ) but I highly suggest you talk around (and by talk around, I don't mean a forum on a Risk website). Socialism has some very interesting aspects to it, and it'd be worth getting to know better.

Just a question- if poor people are poor because of lack of education and motivation, then it would also follow that racial minorities are inherently stupid and lazy.

And we're not even looking outside of North America here.

Have fun getting an education if you live in a developing country. My god, how can entire countries be stupid and lazy? If only they'd pull up their bootstraps and hit the books!

I apologize at the sarcasm.

This is because there is no capitalism there. Name one poverty stricken country. (I am not denying that there arent any, I just want to reveal something about it.)

from memory the USSR was under entirely different system then communism and marxist it was defined as leninist or marxist-leninist, because they are differing systems. marxist is a form of socialism, socialism is supposed to be before communism as it is implemented before there is enough of everything for everyone.

Is Hail a Fault? Hmmm

I dont remember ever seeing a russian reusable shuttle, i remember they were working on a design and not surprisingly it looked like the U.S. shuttle.

I'm not trying to make this an American against Russian thing, I'm just saying that without the pressure of the cold war, they would have no desire for those kinds of advancements. They would keep the status quo.
