I'd rather have no money, but you see, money is a necessity so GFY with that idea.

Hmmmm.

The problem without having any kind of currency is that globalist corporations would not be able to thrive, and that the consumerist culture would come to an abrupt end.

I mean, say I have to start working of off the land, and I manage to harvest ,say, 10 tonnes of corn every year. I then go to the market to trade 9 tonnes of it for a playstation, a packard bell and a crate of lager.

The problem is, that the computer manufacturer that was supposed to have built the PC's has had to delay, as the electronic component manufacturer is still haggling with the copper merchant, at how many cows he has to trade for a cubic meter of copper.

It would slow everything down to a golliwogs cakewalk.

You'll probably see this as total bullshit, but this what I think of money -
It creates social inequality and greed. People base their whole life around this thing made by paper or plastic. Why? What's the point apart from being filthy rich and not living in poverty? Poverty is created by money, by greed. If we didn't have money, there would be no taxes or anything along those lines. A bartering system would work just as well, but people believe that money is it, the thing that we've been needing for our whole existence.

I just can't stand it. Again, you probably see that as bullshit, but I don't blame you as it's my opinion

No I get your point. Obviously you can't have economic equality, not in capitalism but of course capitalism has many flaws but it is the status de quo and it is teh best working system. Socialism sounds good in practise but greed also happens in socialism as well as capitalism

money is a necessity - it makes trade easier as Norse explained. i view it as a thing trough which you can make your life easier if u have it. but there are people who work only for getting more and more of it - and I believe they are deeply unhappy. money has risen to such height in western civilization it is the ultimate moral, social and cultural value, i am abhorred by this fact. i mean to have money is ok, but there is so much more then that, so don't judge people by their wealth.

... Money does not create social inequality, people do. There's a whole thread dedicated to this argument so I won't babble on. Just think on that for a minute.

I agree with what you say here, but it is an unfortunate truth that no matter what is used, someone is going to exploit it. Even in a barter economy, someone is going to gain a monopoly over some vital product, and the end result will be the same as in a society with coinage.

That said, I think money is used as a scapegoat by this overly materialistic society of ours. Were personal wealth never given such importance in western society, very likely only a few percent of the horrible acts committed in its name would have ever occured.

Huge increases in production have meant that artificial wants need to be stimulated to create demand for all the surplus bollocks that companies churn out. So we are bombarded every day by adverts for stuff we don't need, and it makes us greedy. It represents a lifestyle that we are taught to crave and to aspire to.

If you want to solve these problems, kill the ad men and the marketers.

Not that simple I dont think.

Besides, there are some extremely positive things to come out of our ever advancing age. I mean, Im not a big fan of walking 3 miles per day to gather water, Meningitis jabs are quite nice to have and the internet allows me not to have to spend a fortune on postage/hookers.

I understand that no boy needs to have 6 games consoles, or that no girl should read that "hello" or "ok" toilet paper media, but that is down to poor parenting, surely?

If anyone is in any way altered by adverts, then I feel very, very saddened for them. In fact, I feel even more superior.

Industry has definitely some incredible things for us, no doubt. But advertising and marketing are so fucking huge that they bear a lot of responsibility for the greed and the problems caused by it, because that's what they exist to do. They generate greed. And whether or not you feel it affects you, and i agree with you, it does affect plenty of people because otherwise corps wouldn't be spending billions of £££ a year on it.

Killing them might not solve anything but it would make me feel a lot happier.

I hate money.

As I type, I am looking at a company's payroll records for the year, gross wages totalling £4.2m. Which is not what their accounts say, and guess who's going to have to find the difference, and quickly?

Fucking money.

And a great wodge of what, exactly, is going to be dumped into your bank account for smoothing over these little, ahem, irregularities?

This is about the most inane bullshit I have ever seen.

Hating capitalism is like hating gravity. It is a theory and system that is objective and independent. You may hate the way people do business, you may hate national business policies, you may think you prefer a barter system to a currency system, but none of this has shit to do with capitalism.

Fucking ignorant piss-ant. All of your polls should have a choice of "I don't care, but Simonov is an ignorant fish fucker."

I wish this were in flame wars so I could really tell you what I think.

I didn't actually call him an ignorant fish fucker, I was just making a friendly suggestion on how he might improve the poll.

I am all for the ignorant piss-ant.

If this were in flame wars, I might have taken that extra step and called him something really dirty, like a libertarian.
