You ask serious questions and my colleges and I try to answer your question.

My specialties:
-World in first half of 20th century
-Third world countries
-Croatian History
-Regional History (Central European & Balkans)
... [I can't remember what to write next]

I think that all you educated historians can contribute in making this topic.

OK! I must admit ancient China isn't my area. I tried to google something out, but I really don't know what valuable information did I encounter. I must say I feel dumb. But if someone else with more expertise wants to answer you...

I know a little bit about history, especially local S.A. stuff.

Anyway, don't know much about China.

Croatia was a monarchy form 10th century (around year of 925 pope writes a letter to Tomislav, rex Croatorum) till 20th century. First and only home-made dynasty was Trpimirovići who ruled in 9th & 10th century. Then came a couple of non-Trpimirovići kings who didn't form their dynasties like Dmitar Zvonimir (maybe a son in law of last great Trpimirovići king Petar Krešimir).

Croatian nobles elected Hungarian Arpad dynasty in 1102. because last Croatian king died and his widow was a Hungarian princess.

In 1301. Croatian noble family Šubići brings French family Anjou(that ruled souther Italy) to Hungaro-Croatian throne.

In 1527. Croatian nobles parliament elected Habsburgs as their kings (because they had means and money to fight Ottoman invasion).

Gavrilo Princip was a Serb from Bosnia and most of the men in his group were Bosnian Serbs. But some of the Croats had same ideas at the time.
