What is a miracle

Postby joecoolfrog on Fri Oct 12, 2007 5:59 am

I ask this because it seems to be defined as anything we cannot explain.
Now I have walked for 50 yards on the Sea of Galilee (True) but I dont think its a miracle because I have an explanation, however would somebody who was unfamiliar with that body of water think it a miracle if they had seen me ?

And you are talking about Jesus and his "walking on water" miracle

Yep I had to walk/wade at least 100 metres before it was deep enough to swim, it really is very shallow for a fair distance from the shore. I was struck at the time about how easy it would be to give the impression of walking on the water, especially to those sitting on the hillside.

The problem with this is that they (Christ and His disciples) were out in deep water. While Jesus was walking on the surface, Peter was told to come out of the boat too and immediately started to sink into the water (lack of faith). It is no surprise that man would try to explain away the miracles of God.

Explain these:

The Red Sea parts allowing the Israelites to cross to the other side.

Lazareth is raised from the dead. (after being dead for several days)

Shadrack Meshack and Obednigo survive the fiery furnace.

5,000 people are fed with only a couple loaves of bread and a fish.

Explain why Jesus couldn't of been married when he was a rabbi, and rabbi had to be married?

"rabbi" means teacher. He was a rabbi, a teacher...but who do YOU say that He is? This whole Devinchi Code thing is rediculous. I'm not going to waste my time explaning it. Jesus was not married and had no children.

I'm not basing it from the De Vinci Code. That's fucking ridiculous movie. I'm basing it off the hypothesis and theories of actual histories who have studied the bible, which the De Vinci Code got it's stuff from.

Rabbi's needed to be married to be accepted in Jewish culture. To be a rabbi, you had to be married, and at least had children. Where is your proof that he didn't have children?

I said it's a hypothesis. A very probable one. If you knew Jewish culture, you would know that rabbi's had to be married. Jesus was a rabbi, he had to be married.

If you knew who Jesus was, you would know that he OFTEN did things against "the norm". No, He did not "have to be married".

But people didn't usually accept him when he did things against the norm. i thought that was art of the reason they stuck him on a tree in the end.

Uh, you seem to be forgetting that you don't know Jesus either, no more than I do. You also seem to be forgetting that a lot of people back then did not believe in him. Look how easily he got turned against at the trial by Pilas (SP?)! If that's even to be believed

You cannot just say that he didn't have to be married to be a rabbi, because he was "King of the Jews", therefore having to abide to Jewish law, no matter who he was. A rabbi had to be married, and even if he was the Son of God, he had to abide by his peoples laws, other wise his whole scheme of being the Son of God would of been brought down like nothing else could have.

Theres a drought

He never really died

Never heard of this one, but any chance they just didn get burnt and found a safe route out?

It was a whale and the loaves were a mile long each.

OK, says you. That is what he was called (by others). AND not even the point of why He came. You keep bickering over if Jesus was a rabbi or not.....I have more important things to do....

Yeah, others called him a rabbi.

They probably wouldn't have done that unless, as skittles said, he was attached.

I keep bickering that there is a high possibility that Jesus was married, with the evidence that rabbi's needed to be married. You, and your conservative ways, can't just accept that he could of possibly been married.

YOU HAVE NO EVIDENCE! No where in the Gospels say he wasn't married. I at least have evidence that rabbi's needed to be married. He needed to follow the laws of the Jewish community other-wise he wouldn't of been accepted. AGH!

I'd like to point out that the religious leaders of the day were a big part of the reason Jesus was crucified: He didn't do things the way they did, and they didn't like him because of it. So if he bucks the trends enough to get killed over it, isn't it at least possible that he bucked the trend of rabbis getting married?
