Humans will destroy human life, but the planet will live on. The planet will die when the sun goes supernova.

And then nothing... Life on other planets will continue until their respective suns also go supernova, other stars will emerge and burn out over time.. Galaxies will emerge and expire, etc. etc....

not nessacly the sun could turn into a black hole thougth very unlikely because of its low mass. or it could then into a neutron star. and could then possibly be a pulsar. but we really dint know and then it could be come a nuebla and form more stars.

Hmmm...so do you believe there would be another "big bang" or that there would be another "creation" of worlds/planets? (or a different kind of universe - I'm theorizing here only)

Ahh, but the sun won't go supernova. It's not big enough.

It'll merely go Red Giant and the Earth will be reduced to a small ball of slag.
That is when the Earth will be effectively destroyed.
Of course, humanity will probably have nicked off by then, so we won't really care.

a nother big bang could happen there a theroy that all the stars will pull back together. and then make another big bang but many there isnt enough mass on the universe for that.

Nope, we don't get anything near that fancy.

Most likely all the sun is going to do is expand then contract.
Not particularly interesting (unless you happen to be living in that system, of course...)

When a sun goes supernova it then implodes and becomes a black hole. Beyond that I honestly don't know (ie where neutron stars, pulsars or nebula come from). My point was that humans will not be the death of the planet. Life on earth will continue long after we are gone. The death of life on this planet will be a natural phenomenon.

Why the hell would you bother with anti-matter bombs? Fusion weapons function just as well and are a hell of a lot cheaper.

LOL well I suppose you've got me there!

Do you really think the research will be done to make weapons that can destroy even more than the nuclear warheads that exist now? I mean holy crap, the US already has enough firepower in their arsenal to wipe out most life on earth what, 100 times over? what is the need to make more when they've already over-done it?

Of course we're not talking about the most logically-minded individuals, so you do have a point.

What are you going to come up against that a good fusion nuke won't sort it out?
Anti-matter makes great engines, but as a weapon it is far more economical to use Fusion.

But you can't mass produce anti-matter.

To the best of my knowledge it must be created one atom at a time. It'll take you a few hundred years to make even a bacterium sized warhead.

yes right now we just bombard atoms. but everytime we say something is impossible someone comes along and proves us wrong. science is about proving the impossible

But what would be the point of firing a anti-matter missile against a crappy little ship?
There is essentially no likelyhood in the near future of developing anything better than Fusion engines.
The cost of the missile would probably outweigh that of the ship you are destroying!
It's not the most ecomomical way to make war.

True, Anti-matter is always more interesting than mere Fusion.

You'll always have that added thrill of the entire thing blowing up when the power goes down that you just don't get with Fusion...
