The International Flat Earth Society is the oldest continuous Society existing on the world today. It began with the Creation of the Creation. First the water...the face of the deep...without form or limits...just Water. Then the Land sitting in and on the Water, the Water then as now being flat and level, as is the very Nature of Water. There are, of course, mountains and valleys on the Land but since most of the World is Water, we say, "The World is Flat". Historical accounts and spoken history tell us the Land part may have been square, all in one mass at one time, then as now, the magnetic north being the Center. Vast cataclysmic events and shaking no doubt broke the land apart, divided the Land to be our present continents or islands as they exist today. One thing we know for sure about this world...the known inhabited world is Flat, Level, a Plain World.

We maintain that what is called 'Science' today and 'scientists' consist of the same old gang of witch doctors, sorcerers, tellers of tales, the 'Priest-Entertainers' for the common people. 'Science' consists of a weird, way-out occult concoction of gibberish theory-theology...unrelated to the real world of facts, technology and inventions, tall buildings and fast cars, airplanes and other Real and Good things in life; technology is not in any way related to the web of idiotic scientific theory. ALL inventors have been anti-science. The Wright brothers said: "Science theory held us up for years. When we threw out all science, started from experiment and experience, then we invented the airplane." By the way, airplanes all fly level on this Plane earth.

The concept of a spherical Earth dates back to around the 6th century BC, when it was mentioned in ancient Greek philosophy, but remained a matter of philosophical speculation until the 3rd century BC, when Hellenistic astronomy established the spherical shape of the earth as a physical given.

Historian Jeffrey Burton Russell says the flat-Earth error flourished most between 1870 and 1920, and had to do with the ideological setting created by struggles over evolution. Where's the south pole?

I have a cousin who believes very strongly in a flat earth. The "south pole" is simply the edge of the earth, which explains why the actual "south pole" has been declared off limits by the governments of the world.

My cousin is a man in his fifties. He's at least a high school grad, not sure if he went to college, but just a regular guy. His belief is very much rooted in religion as well. There are tons of youtube videos out there on this subject, which is where he gets all his evidence and "proof". It's madness. It's impossible to have a conversation with him on this, because it's a faith-based issue for him. The science is meaningless to him unless it supports his theory, and if it doesn't, it's a conspiracy.

It intrigues me how Flat Earthers explain things like seasons, time zones, and so on. And what about the other planets - do they think they're flat too?

Other planets do not matter in their worldview, at least for some, or more specifically, those who are like my cousin. His beliefs are based off a literal interpretation of the bible, and backed up by verses. God set the earth upon it's foundations, so that it cannot be moved - proof that the earth is flat! And that the sun and moon rotate around the earth! Other heavenly bodies matter not, for they are not written about, and we're the center of the universe anyway, because of course we are, BIBLE SAYS SO!

It's maddening, yet perversely interesting. A part of me wants to know how their minds work. I've watched some of the craziness that he's posted, as long as they come in 5 or 10 minute clips. The hour long marathon nonsense that he'll post I don't have time for.

What you don't understand is that for some people, my cousin included, their belief is rooted in religion. He'll come up with something to say that you didn't fly over the pole, because it doesn't exist, and point out that the plane if always flying level and never adjusting altitude to compensate for the curvature of the earth, and on and on. He believes in this because of the bible, and no amount of evidence will convince him otherwise, unless you can find several biblical verses stating that the earth is in fact round.
