I'd love to sign this, if it were true. A quick search for the poster's name shows nothing related to the story.

There are no names on this, and the details are pretty bad. This is classic spam. If this was real, then you'd have someone to address the petition to, and someone to address it on behalf of. I don't think you should sign your name to this.

Donate to a cause you believe in instead. Or simply write a letter. It takes a bit more effort than forwarding something, but you might do some good.

Well that's just dandy. Too bad this is happening to a woman on another board I post on. Do you really think I'd post something stupid that got forwarded to me? Come on, I'm not stupid...

I have nothing but sympathy if this is true, hecter.

Give me a congressman to write to, a person I can put my name down to, a place where I can submit my opinion- I'll happily do something.

I don't think you're stupid for posting this. I just can't see anything about this that's different from the other forwards I get demanding internet support for nothing.

It's fine to get emotional about this kind of story at Christmas time, but I don't like being manipulated by someone trying to get their kicks out of people's sympathy.

This petition is for nobody, and aimed at no person or organization. As soon as it becomes a petition aimed at someone, on behalf of someone's cause, then I'll sign.

Send a letter for Amnesty instead.

Thanks for the reply

I'm still pretty skeptical, but maybe that's just my lack of Christmas spirit.

The letter to the congressman is dated a while after the petition, and doesn't use the name that the original poster used, or that the petition used. The original post is Luci, the petition is Christa, and the letter is from someone called Dave.

I hope you'll forgive my skepticism.

I voted, despite being a Brit who has never visited America.

I'd like to see them turn down my citizenship, and send me to south africa!

Sorry to bump this, but I'd like to know if there was any update.

The links Hecter gave just led to a forum where I could give money to the forum user who posted the original forum topic. I've got a lawyer in New York, a congressman from Ohio, and Dennis Kucinich listed as people to apply to.

Is it a hoax, or not? I'd hate to have cast the first stone and been wrong.
