But I'm certainly not going to pay 30% of whatever it would cost for a doctor's visit so I could sit in line for hours and hours and then have an asswipe tell me, "Yep, looks like you hurt your toe. I'll have my racially subjugated nurse with a GED and 1 year of post-secondary education who makes approximately 5% of my annual income put a bandage on it for you. Good day!"

Now, if I broke my arm, I'd gladly pay the 30% of pre-approved medical expenses up to a maximum annual deductible of, well let's just say an amount that is approximately half my annual income, excluding rehabilitation, prescriptions, etc etc et al.

I don't understand most of this as I'm sure most non-Americans wouldn't. Does it translate to, I don't like doctors??

Well you can argue that legacy of communism is doing it's job in our (Croatian) case...

...or you can argue the fact that your government (USA) military budget is 532.8 billion dollars.

I know. It pains me that I understand it. It means that I have medical insurance, a good thing, yes. However, despite this, I can't afford to go to the doctor, especially for minor things like a broken toe. Despite my medical insurance, I have to pay for 30% of "small" medical expenses. So if I went to the doctor, got my toe x-rayed, saw a doctor, got a bandage, I'd still have to pay probably $150--despite having health insurance.

Now if something so major as a broken arm (in reality pretty minor) were to happen to me, I would be in horrible financial straits--despite having health insurance. If, over the course a year, you have very high medical expenses (like I would have if I broke my arm), you only have to pay 30% of an amount that has a cap on it. The capped amount varies from insurance plan to insurance plan, sometimes $5,000, sometimes $30,000. Whatever that cap is, that's the most you'll ever have to pay in a single year for all medical expenses. OH, but wait, NOT ALL MEDICAL EXPENSES. Only the ones that your insurance company approves of. If, my arm was broken, I would pay my full cap, have to pay out of my own pocket for rehabilitation and prescription drugs, and basically spend nearly the entirety of all the money I make in a single year on remedying my broken arm. OH dear, but I would probably have to miss work, wouldn't be able to drive, wouldn't be able to clean my house very well, too bad for me.

Now if I were to get cancer, or go into a coma, and my medical expenses exceeded about $200,000 (again, amount varies according to the plan), I would be doomed to die. Most insurance plans will also only pay out a limited amount in a single year, unless you're willing to spend thousands more on "Major Medical Insurance."

And also, yes, I hate doctors. M.D.'s at least. I'm about 50/50 on Ph.D.'s. I do love the DDS that I'm about to go see in about an hour. He's a very nice man.

I prefer Jefferson's take on it. Essentially, "Screw the monoarchy, we will elect leaders!"
"Eh, whatever."

Well, of all the bones to break, the toe's probably the best one. I broke one of mine about a year ago and it healed on its own just fine.

But then again, maybe a more medically-inclined forum would be the place to ask. :P

It translates to "The US healthcare-system is fucked up because it's most vocal supporters are fucking idiots"
But I don't wanna get into a rant against the current system there because I'm sure the people who need to be convinced are fucking idiots.
"Some motherfuckers are always trying to ice skate uphill."
