Nobody knows how effective it is since nobody gives a shit about timers.

1. Blame it on technical difficulties.

2. Be sick on the day you're supposed to hand it in.

3. Say you forgot it/You forgot you had English today

I rarely turned anything in. And I passed 1st in class everywhere ( expect French ) almost everytimes.

I geuss getting 95-100% in exams help a lot.

I do that, but only because most of my teachers are cool about it cause I do awesome most of the time or I finish everything in class

student: "I swear, my printer is out of ink"
teacher: "Then you should have emailed it to me"
student: "My internet was down so I couldn't"
teacher: "How come you didn't print it before school?"
student: "My bus was late, I can't do anything about it. May I just give it to you first thing in the morning?"
teacher: "Well, just this once"

It works if you make it sound believable, but just about anything works if you have a good reputation.
