The dollar used to be backed by gold, i.e. the gold standard. Now we (like most countries) use "fiat money", money not backed by any physical asset. Rather, our currency is backed by future claims to wealth of American taxpayers and other income sources of the Treasury.

Actually I've never spoken to him. I was on the Bush bandwagon at one time but I am a very analytical person by nature and the facts just don't add up in the 911 terrorist attack...leading me to believe that the other "plots" are bogus as well.
