Was Mao Zedong an ideal leader for China?

Postby haoala on Fri Sep 07, 2007 3:45 am

The question above has a typo, add ideal between "an" and "leader".

Yes he was. Between 1949 and 1974 or something. I might be a couple of years out on the dates, but I can't be bothered to check Wikipedia at the minute.

You can't catch us out with your tricksy questioning that easily.

No, it was Mao Tse-tung :)

But seriously:

I have a great respect for the work he and his party undertook to industrialise and unify China, though I can never support the hysteria and chaos, he unleased at the height of the cultural revolution.

I think, considering the climate of china at the time (ie. the occupation of the kuomingtan) he was a good leader to bring into the fold. He had a very nationalistic approach, and he gave china back to the people.

However, and it is a large however, he then went onto kill his own people, in a paranoid witch hunt, that he labelled as "class-action".

So maybe after winning back china, he should have just died....

But then again, flashleg8 wouldnt have anything to bleat about.

Don't forget he tried a version of Stalin's 5 year plan, and it back fired just as badly, if not worse.

"The Great Leap Forward"

I would disagree it backfired though.

Or Baa Baa Baa (as Norse would say :) )

Incidently Motherwell FC's fanzine is called "Waiting for the Great Leap Forward" - to be honest I think we'll be waiting a while!

If having a sexually perverted murderous monster is ideal, then yes. Otherwise, no.
