OK, I finally went to see TRANSFORMERS, but before the movie there was this trailer for an untitled project by JJ Abrams. It looked pretty interesting. It was a bunch of 20-somethings partying in honor of their friend's last day in NYC. All of a sudden there's a monster (or something like a monster) that hurls the head of the Statue of Liberty through the city streets & fireballs going through the air. The whole thing was shot from the point-of-view of someone with a camcorder. I hear the entire film will be presented this way. Interesting take on the whole monster movie angle. I haven't been able to find a title of the film yet, as the only thing I saw was something called 1-18-08. Anybody else see this?
Also heard that JJ is going to direct & produce the mini-series based on Stephen King's Dark Tower series, which I loved. I noticed from some people's avatars that they've read the series.
Then there's 3 more seasons of LOST which he's working on. All very interesting projects.
So is JJ Abrams the type of "new" producer/director that Hollywood needs? I hope he's not like a "flash in the pan" like M. Night Shyamalan turned out to be (unless he comes up with another big hit). I remember people claiming Shyamalan was the new Spielberg. What are your thoughts on this guy?
